On most machines you have to remove the bottom plate to replace the belt. Simply remove the screws, take out the old belt, put the new one around the motor shaft, then around the brush roll and stretch into place.

I replaced the belt but as soon as I start the vacuum I smell burning and the belt is broken?

The brush roller is clogged with debris and unable to rotate. Because of this, the new belt was unable to move and the motor shaft spun in one place until it burned through. The brush roller has to be removed and disassembled to allow the end caps to be cleaned inside.

Why doesn't the brush roller rotate?

Hi, this is Jim with Crucial Vacuum,

The belt may not be broken, but it may be lacking in tension and therefore unable to rotate the brush roll on its own. You're going to want to replace your vacuums belt every 3 to 6 months depending on usage. Check to see if the belt is loose, or over stretched.

Check the brush roll as well and be sure its securely locked into place. It could be slightly loose causing a lack of communication between itself and the belt. Our video can help with fitting the belt in properly with the brush roll:

This sounds like a belt issue to me. The belt usually runs from a drive shaft to the rotating beater bar / brush. Both the drive shaft and beater bar / brush that are contact with the belt must be clean. Oils, etc. can interfere with the grip on the belt. If the belt is squealing for very long, the drive shaft can damage the belt. make sure you're using the correct belt - and have all the parts in their right places. Recheck your work and provide the vacuum make and model if you're unable to get it working properly.

Brushes not rotating

If your unindentified vacuum cleaner is an upright, the belt may be stretched and unable to rotate the roller brush. The roller brush ends could be clogged with debris, preventing it from rotating freely. The solution is to disconnect your vacuum cleaner from the power and turn it upside down for inspection. It may be necessary to remove the roller brush and remove the end caps to clean inside. Replace any worn parts

Sonic blue DVR4400 belt is broken. Can I buy a replacement part?

Hi, tried to find an exploded view of parts for you on line but was unable to. I did find the company's web address at this URL"
http://www.sonic.com/about/default.aspx
I would assume that if you were to contact them you could get a new drive belt if you wanted to try and fix it yourself. They would most likely try to get you to send it in or take it to a repair shop. Please let me know how you make out. I will be happy to help you further if I can.

The belt is probably worn and slipping, that is why it smells. Here is a link to the owners manual which has instructions and a link to the belt you need.

I would suggest you invert the vacuum and remove the plate covering the spinning brush assembly. You should check the belt located on one side of the spinner brush to see if it is worn or broken. Also remove anything wrapped around the brush that could be affecting it. Ensure the brush is free to rotate and seated correctly. If the belt is worn or broken, or the spinner brush is unable to spin, replacements are available from a licenced repair facility. I hope it helps! Good Luck!
