New lamp, dark picture

I have a Samsung DLP HLP5063W, which I purchased in 2004. The bulb went out in March 2009. I purchased a replacement blub and unit. It fit perfectly and looks just like the original. The set powers up and I have a picture, but it is a little darker than it was before. I have played with the settings, for standard, dynamic, and cinema. Also I have adjusted the brightness and shapness settings, and it gets lighter, but not like it was before the bulb blew. The HD doesn't seem as crystal clear as it was before. Any suggestions? Thanks

check that the new bulb is the same wattage as the old one.

It may be time to replace the DLP chip they sometimes have problems like this as well as small white dots all over the screen, lines, etc. There is also a mirror inside the cabinet that may also need to be cleaned. You can also go to SHOPJIMMY.com they have most all of your parts and videos to step you through the entire process of all your tv needs. Check it out Good Luck .

Thanks for your solution. This is a problem with color wheel. I could not fix it by myself, so my friend will try to fix it next week.

SOURCE: Samsung DLP tv w/ black picture will not power off.

If you are not able to bring up the TV's onscreen menu as well, it appears you have a problem with the TV's mainboard.  You didn't mention if the TV had any blinking error codes so if there aren't any lights flashing on the front, are there any on the sides or back to indicate the problem?  Not all TV's present error codes, but since the TV is maintaining power, it's worth a shot to look.  You could try a power drain:
1. Unplug the product's power cable so the device is not grounded to the house. 2. Press and HOLD the product's own power button for 1 minute to drain the capacitors. 3. Plug the product back into a wall outlet and try to turn it on.
Note: This procedure works with battery operated devices as well so remove the batteries and hold down it's power button.  Electricity can remain in capacitors and on circuit boards enough to prevent normal functionality. By clearing the residue electricity, your product will have a fresh start and many times this will resolve a buggy or non-responsive device that appears to be dead.
If this still doesn't resolve the issue, service would be required so you would want to contact Samsung regardless of your warrant standing for service options.

Did you switch from a bearing Color wheel to an air type bearing? If so,you have to remove the jumper on the board.

SOURCE: loud hum on SAMAUNG dlp MODEL hlp5063w ABOUT7

The most common problem in this set is the Color Wheel----usually if it is going bad you will have a fan like or even grinding sound coming from the back of the set---eventually the wheel will shatter and then the set will shut down--it will detect the wheel is not moving correctly.

If this is your problem: I Googled : hlp5063 color wheel and found several sites with photos and step by step instructions with photos of how almost anyone could do this repair---The part number for this model should be BP96-00674 AND several sites including sellers on Ebay sell the part.

I have seen a lot of these sets with this type of problem---shop around and Google what I did and decide if you can do it yourself---I have had several people here who bought the part and had me come out and install it---least expensive way as a shop is going to charge quite a lot for this repair--

If you need help let me know---there is even one site that has a video of how to do this repair----I can also tell you a few things you most likely will not learn there---simple mistakes to avoid if you do this--for me this replacement of the Color wheel takes about 30 minutes.

I am here to help people.

I have a 55in Samsung Dlp the color looks good but a little dark can't see picture if the movie is dark

You might need a new bulb, the bulbs get dim as there life diminishes. Replace the bulb to get a bright picture. Do not use cheap bulbs, an OEM bulb for that tv should be $60+. . Cheap clone bulbs will work but will fail a lot sooner

I have an HL- t50756 and it turns off every 10 minutes

Try to reset the lamp timer. To do this get the remote first shut off the TV. Then on the TV remote (not cable remote ect) press MUTE
then punch in the numbers 182 then POWER in that order, wait when the TV starts up the Factory meneu will appear go to Options press, then look for Lamp Hrs. to see how many hours you have on your lamp TV lamps last appox 2 years average use. 4,000 hrs. Try this, above where you see the hours go to reset or something like that and press to reset blub timer to zero. Your blub might still be ok, but the timer says times up and tries to shut off the TV thinking the blub is bad. By reseting the blub timer to zero the TV will think it's a new lamp. Until it really goes then no picture at all or gets very dark. Try this trick it might solve your problem.

Good Luck!
