Check the BIOS Setting. It may set to lower clock rate for memory.

I have a HP Evo Intel Pentium 4 destop oc, xp pro (dc5000). it crashed and when we went to reload the OS and drivers, we lost most of the drivers and applications. I can boot it up but it will not go...

Since you have an HP, you can order a replacement set of "System Restore" disks from HP, for less than $20 -- much less than buying a "retail" copy of Windows. That set of CDs will have the correct drivers and the same "factory-installed" applications.

Monitor will not support refresh rate, how do i change it if I can not get a screen image?

Try loading windows in Safe mode. And remove or disable the Radeon card, Safe mode will load windows generic video drivers, then go to control panel, and click on device manager and then click on display adapter, and delete the driver, you must delete it or the Radeon card will reload its driver the next time u reboot and you problem will not go away.

My CPU is starting but my monitor is not the light

First check your input devices, the keyboard & Mouse. If they are OK, i.e. no bent pins or try a working keyboard & mouse. If the motherboard beeps more than twice then remove the RAM from the slot, clean the contact points. If that too does not work check all connections as snug-tight.Remove all hardware accessories except for the HDD. Use the bootable OS disc and reload the OS..............sodeep

How to install additional 256 MB memory

You simply just push the memory into the DIMM socket on the motherboard. You need to use DDR SDRAM but should check what your I/O bus speed is set at. They make 4 different types of DDR SDRAM. They are DDR-200 (PC1600). DDR-266 (PC2100). DDR-333 (PC2700) and DDR-400 (PC3200). The following links should help you out:

DDr or Dual Channel Ddr

From the manual:

2 x 184 pin DDR DIMM Sockets support up to maximum 2 GB unbuffered PC 2700/2100/1600 non-ECC DDR SDRAM memory.

So, to answer your question, for your particular motherboard, no. However, to dispute the other poster, Dual channel is better than regular DDR. It's just your motherboard does not support it.

Dimms replaced Simms when pentium ll came out.
