Question about Dell Photo 964 All-In-One InkJet Printer

1 Answer

Printer creating white lines that distort output

I recently moved and my printer seems to have suffered. Whenever I print in black and white, the output contains distorted text. That is, in specific spots, text comes out blurry & doubled or with blank white lines. When I print in color, white lines/gaps appear in the same spots. This is not an ink cartridge problem, as I have already replaced them. I only use Dell cartridges, never recycled or from questionable sources. I have run alignment and cleaning tests multiple times to no avail.

Please help. I use this printer for my business.

Black and white prints are not black

Sorry, steve, that you are experiencing this problem.

According to canon.com's website regarding the i9900 InkJet Photo Printer:

Why color ink may be used when printing in black and white Even when printing in black and white, color ink is used for the following reasons:
  1. Automatic cleaning of the print head.

To prevent the print head nozzles from clogging, the print head is automatically cleaned periodically. At that time, a small amount of each color ink is consumed.

Therefore, although printing in black and white is performed, color ink is also consumed.

  2. Color inks may be used to create black.

When printing in grayscale or on photo paper or when duplex printing, although printing appears in black and white, the color black may be created using the three (cyan, magenta, and yellow) color inks. Printers without a pigment black tank / cartridge will print black / grayscale will create a composite black using color ink even on plain paper.

Therefore, although printing in black and white is performed, color ink may be consumed.
  3. In order to keep the heavy black ink from smearing on the page or in the printer, color ink is used when duplex printing to help create black text.

    ---
I might suggest taking out the color ink cartridges leaving only black there, but some printers don't take kindly to this. So, you may have to further experiment with magenta, cyan, and yellow to make it at least seem b&w to your best eye's judgment.

Good luck on this.

I have a brother mfc 240 printer. Lately whenever i use the auto feeder black vertical lines show up all over the paper. If i print by laying something on the glass it doesnt seem to do this. Also if i...

When you use the feeder to scan, the original is scanned across a small strip of glass on the left side, rather than using the long platen glass to scan. If you're only getting lines when you use the feeder, there is dirt or white-out or some other substance built up on that **** glass. Wiping it down with a dry lint-free cloth should probably do the trick, but if the lines are still there you might want to use a damp cloth.

Hope that helps!

Pixma 450 printer is printing only in black, no color

I believe your problem lies in the printer properties - in that at some point, the printer was told to print all colors in black & white.

Seems very frustrating but in reality, it should be just a simple fix.

Try going into printer properties:
either control panel then right-click on printer icon
or point mouse to start menu, printers and faxes, then right-click on default printer (assuming it is the correct printer), left click on properties, then left click on printer preferences, far tab likely...look for <color> and have a look at any checkmarks in boxes having to do with "print all colors in black white" or something like..." print in greyscale only"

should fix if not, go to printer mfg website and download most recent driver and any patches.
if you take this route...do not install the driver quite yet - just download it to maybe desktop for now.
First you would have to uninstall existing driver, reboot, THEN install the new driver then reboot and see what happens.

Printer keeps printing lines across the page of 1

Width of head sprayer (head output) of black is about 1". Check nozzle. It might be some point of head spayer distort. See check nozzle ouput. There are tranversal and vertical lines that represent same point of head sprayer. Is the output perfectly straight and no clog at all? Do head cleaning procedure.

Vertical dark lines

Try to reset the printer unplug it for an hour.

If those line are drawn (nice and straight) the printer has serious issues, think of replacement.

If you change recently your black for a compatible then try a genuine one,

The print head might have leaked.
Or, a drop of ink felt on the wheel who move the paper. Open it and try to clean with a damp rug
The mechanism need some greassy spot so do not be too clean.
good luck...
