Screen resolution always get back to a different value

Hi,
I'm using Thinkpad T43p with ATI FireGL V3200 with the newewst driver.
I have no special display manager or Lenovo utilities installed.
I'm running Windows XP pro SP3
My resolution is set to 1400x1050.
But, every time the laptop goes to sleep or the screen shuts down (not screen saver, but power saver), it comes back with resolution of 1024x768.

Can you please tell me why is it and what can I do to stop this annyoing thing ?

Thanks a lot,
Roy

Thanks for the answer. I use the ATI Catalyst Control Center and it indicates the correct resolutions there.

The TFT do support higher resolution and all worked well before I re-installed it... If I do not close the laptop lid, all is well and the resoultion stays the same even if it goes to sleep and back. But once the lid is down, it's like automatically goes to presentation mode (I guess) and goes to lower resolution. I do not know how to disable it.
    Thanks !...

There is most likely a utility ( ati util ) that runs in the background so set the resolution through there utility and that should solve the issue where as if you set it through windows display properties it will continue to do the above.

The only other thing I can think of is that the TFT does not support anything above the 1024 * 768 resolution ( check the manual that came with your laptop and post back with the info )

If you still want to know post back and let me know and I can have a look further into it.

ATI FireGL 8800 graphic card show black screen in digital mode

You didn't tell more details about your problem with your graphics card so I can troubleshoot what will be the problem with it. Before I solve it, lemme ask you a few question:
Since your OS is Win XP, is it 32bit or 64bit? What is your CPU frequency clock speed? What application does your graphics has a problem? And also, what is your monitor's maximum resolution? And what is your mobo (sometimes this has some source of issues).
I'll wait for your response to this. Thank you.

How to change screen resolution of t43 if it is

That 1024-by-768 value is the MAXIMUM supported by the computer.

The only way to go to a "higher" value is to buy a newer computer.

Vertical lines on thinkpad T43p screen.

You have identified the fault is the video card, I am in agreement. The fault is on the motherboard and a replacement motherboard is the only fix. This may not be a cost effective solution, I would recommend you put your money towards a new laptop.

Ati or nvidea? which is more reliable and well built for dell

To me it is probably personal preference. I have always like Nvidia, and I have had a couple of systems that had ATI. Nvidia to me seems more stable and more reliable. You might search some sites for benchmark comparisons

I have a similar problem with this monitor, i always after connecting having to go to the "screen Position and Size" setting in my ATI FireGL. and shift the screen 1 pixel, and the color and resolution turn ok, it is manual step, but better than no fix

R51 vartical line on display

Try reinstalling all over, format your notebook and freshly install again your OS and drivers. It sometimes happen when we tweak some drivers it saved into the registry, it can be happen that settings is still there in the registry even you uninstall the driver, cause it's still the same driver although it has a different version. Sounds intriguing...? BUt its true, coz' you just only update the firmware but with the same driver.
