It may be easier to get a card reader. They transfer much faster and you do not need to use the camera batteries. They are very inexpensive on Ebay and Amazon now.

Hi,
a 6ya expert can help you resolve that issue over the phone in a minute or two.
Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of.(from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones)
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
Goodluck!

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.
The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.
Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo management program such as Picasa ( http://picasa.google.com )

I've been using my camera, and downloading pictures to my computer, without problems for a few years. Now, when I plug the camera to my computer, I get a message on the camera that says 'communication...

Sounds like you forgot to use the "safely remove hardware" function once before and now the camera can't be recognized by computers. That's ok....happens to all of us. Just get a card reader and use it for downloads. It's far easier than the camera/USB system anyway. typrice_137.jpg

Lost software

Hello
Windows can handle downloading from a digital camera without necessarily loading the software for the camera. Just follow these steps.

1. Connect your camera thru a USB cord to the computer and switch the camera on. The computer should be able to identify it. Some digital cameras get recognized if they are on play/edit mode rather than on taking picture position.

2. Follow the screen instructions to download the pictures to your computer.

3. If nothing happens with 1 & 2 above then go to START and MY Computer and double click that icon.

4. A screen showing all drives connected to your computer will appear including D or E whatever the case maybe where your camera is connected identifying your camera by name.

5. Double click the icon with your camera connection and the software will start reading the contents of your camera and then you follow instructions on the screen.

6. The pictures on your camera will then be displayed on the window and then you can mark all or some of them for downloading to the computer.

I hope this solves your problems, if not please advise accordingly

Trouble downloading photos to computer

Forget your USB cable Jill. Buy a card reader that reads xD cards (Fuji have one on their website for £4.88+£3.00 P&P, or I picked up a multi card reader from Jessops for £13, which says what it does on the box - ie, can be used for other picture cards beside the xD card) Remove card from camera, fit in the relevant slot on the reader and plug into a USB port on your computer. Your computer will automatically recognise new hardware, and the magic task box appears after a few moments inviting you to "Copy files to your computer", etc., and off you go!

Hey,

Right click my computer icon, select manage, from the left side select device manager, then on the right side note any ! or ? marks and find your camera. it possibly has a problem. you should also be able to see your camera, in my computer as a removeable drive

Thanks,
Ekse

Camera does not respond when turned on or when plugged in to recharge.

I followed the advice of my Fixya adviser--remove the battery for 3 minutes then plug the USB cable into a different port on my computer and plus in the camera. I did that and turned the camera on as advised but the green light still did not blink. The adviser did not respond when I asked what to do next so I disconnected the camera from the computer and plugged it into the charger. This time the first blue light started blinking (nothing happened when I tried it before following the Fixya advice). I left the camera to charge all night and eventually, after about 12 hours, it did.
Seems O.K. now.

Hmm perhaps the USB Cable has dust in it. Have you tried blowing into the ends to clear any dust?
