Kenmore model# 96281100 elect. dryer

Dryer heating element glows red while I'm trying to explain to wife that nothing is wrong with the dryer. Then, as soon as I turn my back or leave, it goes out, and wife swears dryer is still not fixed because clothes are still wet. Everything else works fine. Help!! Jimbo331

Dryer is in a basement with no venting what so ever, so clogged or "pinched" venting cannot be the issue here.

Jimbo, this dryer uses a cyling thermostat to turn the heater on and off. If your vent is pinched or clogged, or the vent to the outside is clogged, you are going to have long dry times and damp clothes. Try doing a load with the vent disconnected from the back of the dryer. If everything turns out ok, then it's a venting issue. Catriver

Hi,

If you are having problems with your gas dryer not heating the most common problem is that the ignitor goes bad. Even though it glows sometimes it is still not working properly.

if you dryer is gas check out this gas no heat tip....

If you have an electric dryer, you can have many different things that can go wrong causing the dryer not to heat.

check out this electric no heat tip...

Kenmore mid 1994 110 96281100 no power to element

Normally inside the air duct you will find the heating coil and the thermostats/thermistor.
Once you have located the heating coil, remove the two wires from it and check the coil with an ohm meter across the two terminals of the coil.
You should read continuity across the terminals, if not you will need to replace the coil as it is faulty.
If the heating coil is ok, then:
You can check the thermostat/thermistor by removing the two wires and taping them together with electrical tape.
If the coil heats up then replace the thermostat/thermistor.
DO NOT LEAVE THE WIRES TAPED TOGETHER AFTER THE TEST. This could cause a fire, as you have removed the safety of overheat from the machine.
I will include these two websites for parts and further help:
http://www.partselect.com/
http://www.appliancepartspros.com/index.aspx
Both also have chat assistance 24/7.
Good Luck,
Hope this helps

Kenmore Elite HE3 Gas Dryer - Heat flame will not ignite

The Igniter glows, then shuts off without igniting gas - the problem is probably with defective coils (black, located on top of the gas valve). It is recommended to replace all coils (usually two or three) if found defective.

Note: Sometimes the whole gas valve may be defective, thus not letting the gas out. However, this problem is not common.

OK .. on your dryer it does have a bi-metal switch that turns on and off the element....if your dryer produces heat... nothing wrong with element.. a thermostat w/wire sensor is the only way to check for your heat if its working correctly.. the other is to check if your clothes coming out of your washer is it wetter then before.. might need to spin one more time.. good luck..

Kenmore dryer doesnt heat

Nothing you did wrong! Probably needs a new heating element. Prices vary by model. Call Sears/Kenmore parts center nearest you. Tell 'em you need a heat element for your dryer. Be sure to provide your dryer's model number.

Unplug your appliance first before attempting repairs! Safety first and always!
