Sony vaio PCG-GRT30P Screen Problem

The screen has over the past 6 months sometimes appeared pink, sometimes normal colour. Last week while in use, the screen flickered a couple of times then went black.

I hibernated computer and then brought out of hibernation and saw "restarting windows" appear at the bottom of the screen, then nothing.

So, I shut the computer down by switching off. I then turned back on and saw the windows logo and writing what normally appears upon start up..after this the screen remains black. I can hear the computer is operating otherwise and believe the fault is with the screen, however I'm no expert!

I have tried connecting to 2 different new monitors following all instructions but I get exactly the same result as I do on the laptop screen.

Thanks for any assistance,

Luke

You could have a defective screen, either a faulty inverter or a CCFL lamp - follow this to determine the fault.

Defective CCFL backlight, it may have the following symptom:

  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp) has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp

Connect an external monitor to your laptop and power it up, if you see the normal Windows images then the video card and laptop is OK and the problem is definitely the backlight.

Dim image and/or dark display on the laptop's LCD screen indicates a faulty LCD backlight and it could be the inverter that supplies high voltage to the CCFL lamp or it is the CCLF lamp is nearly burnt out or burnt out, most likely this is the case.
The inverter can be replaced easily but the CCLF lamp is more time consuming and requires soldering skills.

Noticed screen flickering occasionally the last

Screen bulb burning out, bad inverter, or LCD wires crimped or exposed and touching each other and shorting out.  Have IT open this puppy up and look into it or you can do it if you got the tools and your handy. You can get a new screen on e-bay for around $150

Sony vaio BCG K23 blue screen...not booting up

Hello Nick,
It could mean a faulty hard drive, is the laptop still under warranty ?
During the power on sequence you may be able to press a key example 'F10' for hardware utilites this should allow you to test the harddrive. If the harddrive is faulty you have to replace it.
Unfortunately it that mean you will have to reinstall windows. It doesnt seem to be totally dead so if you have data that you want to recover perhaps a professional could help.
Removing the battery will not help this appears to be hardware related

If you get the initial Sony screen, then this is a hard drive crash, and the drive will need to be replaced. If you do not get the initial screen, then it a failed motherboard component. Either way,, you have a hardware issue, and there's no simple fix. I hope your parents will be away for a while. If you need anything else, just ask, and good luck.
