Player shutting down after 10 seconds

My player keeps shutting down after 10 minutes no matter if I am plugged into the wall or if I have full battery power. Any idea to why it keeps doing this?

Re: Player shutting down after 10 seconds

Shutting down completely like power is gone or just DVD stopping with power on? If completely shutting down the look in power supply and find bad capacitor and replace. If DVD stops with power then look at laser, clean or maybe damaged.

I have a durabrand portable dvd player and I can not get the battery to recharge. I have unplugged it from the DC in jack and the cord from the wall. Reinserted the battery, then inserted the AC adaptor...

If your portable DVD player work with the AC power adapter in the wall outlet.100% the litium battery doesn't take any more holding charges. The litium battery should last u about 2 years with minium usages 2-3 hours a day.But that the DVD player and the litium battery must keep in very well conditon and wheather wise. Not in the heat or cold and the humitnity well shorten the lituim battey life very quickly and also could damages the portable DVD player too dosen't matter how much u used it.Tries webites like,, to buy a new litium battery or a compatible one.

Uplug from wall outlet, remove main battery, allow 30 minutes to discharge the player, this will reset the microprocessor ic. Now install battery and plug in the power cord, attempt to operate the device, if no change! buy new player much cheaper.

My little colby dvd player wont open or close and it wont turn off. if it would open, i would try to reset the remote..yes, i have plugged and unplugged and have it plugged directly into tv???

I assume you've tried plugging into a wall socket instead of TV?

Probably won't work, but push and hold power button on unit 10 seconds then release, for that matter try all buttons. Not uncommon problem, usually you have to UNPLUG unit, disassemble to remove DVD and discard unit if cheap enough.

Portable dvd player won't work

As I recommend to anyone having problems of this kind; you need to procure a cheap multimeter so you can at least check whether your adapter is producing any voltage at all and check the battery to see if it is even chargeable; these things will short one or more cells making them unusable and incapable of taking a charge.
You can buy a digital multimeter for under $20 US at Radio Shack or auto parts stores, or under $10 US at Harbor Freight Tools if you have on in your area. They include almost intelligible instructions in Chinglish.

HELP!!! my portable DVD player isn't charging correctly

If it is under warranty, then try to get another battery from the company or you can get another battery yourseld on ebay like item number 250261738286. When rechargeable battery operated devices act like this, it is most likely due to a battery that just does not charge to full capacity because it is old (I did take not that you mentioned that it is fairly new) or just bad. Let us know know how it goes.

This is called "audio transfer saturation. Rarely happens but will when there is constant use of player. Drain saturation by removing battery (if attached), With the power adapter still attached, turn off player and unplug adapter from wall for several hours. Saturation should discharge back through you adapter. Disconnect adapter from player before plugging back into wall. You may have to do this periodically when constant music is played.

Battery Charging

Perhaps one of the contact pins are slightly bent, best to remove the power lead from the wall, grab a magnifying glass ... and have a closer look.

A bent pin will appear to be out of line with the others.

The connector may also be worn in such a way that it will not make contact... no matter which way hold your tongue. :)
Take extra care when straightening the pin or pins.

Also a worn connector can build up a type of scum on the surface of the pin or pins, otherwise known as oxisidisation and corrosion or in simple terms ... RUST !
Carefully clean the pins with a Q tip dipped in methylated spirits and allow 5-10 minutes to dry, before reconnecting the charger to the DVD player.

The other possibility remains that the battery or charger may also be past it's used by date and may need to be replaced.

I have the same unit, and had the same problem numerous times. I finally removed the battery and sprayed CRC electronic cleaner over the battery terminals as well as the units terminals. Put the battery back in hooked up the charger and it went green. It is playing as I write this.
