Frigidaire side by side, water leaking onto bottom of freezer

I have been getting water leaking into the bottom part of the freezer side. Then noticed water on the floor in front of the freezer. Looking closer, it was coming from the bottom of the freezer door when it was opened. I thought I had a water leak from the water dispenser. When i started taking the freezer apart, I took the back panel on the INSIDE of the freezer off, and found the refrigerant coils covered in frost and some blocks of ice. Is this a sign of low refrigerant or could it simply be that everything needs cleaning real good? I've had a few problems with the water line, and had the fridge in and out from the wall but have never cleaned the back or underneath it. I'm wondering if a good clean will solve this or if I need to call a repair man. Thanks for any help

    Thanks Fisher,
although this wasn't the actual solution it got me going in the right direction. I hadn't even thought about it defrosting until you mentioned it. When I had looked at it, I did not see a drain. Reason I didn't see it was it was under ice. When I defrosted I had to look real hard to find it. It simply was not draining and all that water was refreezing on the evaporator. When it did defrost, water would run into the bottom of the freezer and into the door seal. Cleaned out the drain, problem solved!

I have a Frigidaire Model # FRS20WRHW6 side by side. It is about 8 years old. The freezer wasn't working and I called a repairman out. He took the back part off to expose the defrost coils. There was a solid chunk of ice at the top. He said the cost of the repair would be more than getting a new fridge. I paid $140. for him to tell me that. After he left I took a blow dryer and melted the big chunk. I let the fridge sit unplugged and then cleaned underneath and the back (it was dirty). I replugged it in, and immediately the top section of the coils started frosting over and the frost had built up significately overnight and still not cooling. Is it a total lose? Couldn't it possibly be the defrost timer? I suggested that, but the repairman didn't acknowledge it.

Thank you for the advice. i cleaned out my fridge/freezer a Frigidaire, including the iceberg that had completely engulfed the bottom basket and it's contents, because it came out in one huge chunk , i did not completely defrost and i have the same thing happening again. i will totally defrost when it's cold enough to keep the freezer contents out side. Hope it works.

Hi, We have a side by side fridge freezer, LG GR-L207NI. I thought the freezer door seal had gone as there was a small pool of water on the floor in the morning, after cleaning it up and wiping around the edges of the door and body I noticed what looked like a blue substance appeared to have leaked from the bottom edges of the freezer where it meets the seal, this has also corroded the bottom door hinge. Is this blue substance internal insulation and can I seal the joins with silicone to stop it or do i need to purchase a new unit.

If you looked at the back section of the freezer (inside) and found ice then you need to completely defrost the fridge freezer. What you are describing is a frozen evaporator and the freezer needs airflow to work properly. If the unit starts behaving normally after defrosting then you need to monitor it closely as they will normally start playing up again after 2-3 weeks. If it does fail again then you probably have a defrost problem normally the defrost heater but can also be the defrost timer o defrost sensor. If it fails to reach temp then I would suggest contacting a decent repair guy who should be able to diagnose which one within a reasonable time. I would recommend defrosting first though because the same symptoms can happen when a door is left ajar. Hope the above is of some help.

Kenmore side by side water leaking from freezer

You can buy a kit from whirlpool. In the kit is a metal tab that mounts onto the defrost heater. It is long enough to go into the hole. When the heater comes on for defrost the heat transfers down to the hole and keeps it from getting plugged up with ice. Part number 819043

Water from freezer pools at the bottom

The drain line for the evaporator is frozen shut. You have to thaw the drain line that is located behind the rear wall in the freezer side. It is at the very bottom and will require a hair dryer or lots of hot water.

Water collecting and freezing in bottom of freezer

Hi, Remove the rear inside panel of the freezer and locate the drain hole under the evaporator coil. Remove the ice and flush the drain hole with hot water to make sure it is free. You can try running a soft wire through the drain also.
I hope this helps you. Please let me know if I can assist you further.

Water leaking from freezer.

Either the inlet valve is stuck or the icemaker solenoid is shored.

Most likely the second one.

Freezer leaking water

The drain is plugged just below the coils in the back of the freezer. My fridge had the same problem and I found the hose (which can be accessed from the rear bottom) was plugged with mold. Also, i noticed the hose was connected to the water holding pan and was too close to the bottom and easy to plug. I removed it from the connector and just let it dangle in the holding pan.

Water Freezing in bottom of Freezer and dripping out front of freezer door

this could either be a blocked drain from the freezer not allowing defrost water to escape or the defrost heater failing to turn on due to a faulty defrost heater or defrost timer not enabling the water to escape

you may need to clean the drain tube again. the only other place that water may come from is the ice maker if it is over flowing. this however would be very obvious. use some thing like a length of cloths line cable to "snake" the drain after you defrost it. the fastest way to defrost it is to use hot water and a turkey baister. good luck.
