Open Question

I have a H 350 Howard Garden Rotavator. The blocks (like bicycle brake blocks) are missing from between the clutch plates allowing steel upon steel. I need to replace these and I need to replace the two cables from the handles of the machine. The machine was purchased in the mid 1970s. Where can I purchase these parts today? Is it possible to get a manual for this machine? Is there one available online? Eugene

Be sure you are using the correct component input
This model has three component inputs and only one (the third from left) will work on 1080i signal the first two only handle 480i and 480p
This tv will not operate with 720p signal

Depends upon which master cylinder you are referring to. All cars have a master cylinder in the brake system. This device contains a reservoir for brake fluid and is activated when you press the brake pedal to provide the hydraulic pressure that runs through the brake lines to the wheels to provide stopping power. If the car has a manual transmission, it may also have a master and slave cylinder in the clutch system. Mowcart 66 break/clutch dosnt work properly and chain keeps coming off


Loosen adjuster plates where rear axle mounts to frame,they should be elongated slots to allow chain to be adjusted and alig ned,you can also adjust belt under body for clutch/brake function..

local hardware store will have them. I have a 1972 tractor and I just changed the ones on my tractor. you may want to clean the points with a sand paper very fine paper.

The clutch brake is a non servicable item, you need to remove the motor, belt and brake assembly take out the screws, remove and replace the clutch brake.

The clutch is operated by a steel cable moving in a sheath when the clutch pedal is depressed and released. This operation is very similar to the hand brake of a bicycle.

If dirt enters the cable and becomes lodged between the sheath and cable, it will require more pressure to be applied on the clutch pedal to operate the clutch. The same thing can happen if water enters - it can cause rust to form on the cable and sheath with the same results. Because is requires more pressure to operate, the small individual steel strands the make up the cable may break - and the broken ends become jammed in the inside of the sheath. Because your leg muscles are some of the most powerful in the body, you can generally easily overcome the additional resistance offered by the rust / dirt. Only when the damage is done do you realize there's a problem.

It sounds like the clutch is not being allowed fully released - so it is slipping while driving. This is likely to be the source of the burning smell you are noticing. If you continue to drive the car without being fixed, you will need to have internal clutch parts replaced sooner that the normal replacement interval (the clutch is a normally replaced item similar to brakes).

The fix is replacing the cable itself (if it is a cable related problem). Your local mechanic can do this job fairly inexpensively. If it is the results of clutch parts in the transmission that have failed (pressure plate, throw out bearing, etc.) the repair costs can rise quickly.

I have just aquired a Howard 400 rotavator which has a Champion J8 spark plug fitted, is this the correct plug and if so where can I get som.


Which engine have you got?... There were several fitted, though I expect it's a *** 4/3. If it is then it should be fitted with a Champion L10, The NGK B6HS or Champion L86C which are modern equivalents should also work and are easy to find if you don't value "originality"

REMOVAL:
  1. Lift clutch pedal to uppermost position to disengage clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft.
  2. Push clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft forward and unhook clutch release lever cable from clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft and allow it to slowly swing rearward.
  3. Raise and support vehicle.
  4. Remove clutch release lever dust shield.
  5. Disconnect clutch release lever cable from clutch release shaft.
  6. Remove retaining clip, then clutch release lever cable from flywheel housing.
  7. Remove starter motor from flywheel housing, then engine rear plate to front lower flywheel housing bolts.
  8. Remove transmission.
  9. Remove flywheel housing back just far enough to clear clutch pressure plate, then remove housing.
  10. Remove clutch release shaft from flywheel housing by pulling it through window in flywheel housing until retainer spring disengages from pivot.
  11. Remove clutch release hub and bearing from clutch release shaft.
  12. Loosen six clutch pressure plate bolts evenly to release spring tension gradually and avoid distorting clutch pressure plate. If same clutch pressure plate is to be installed, mark plate and flywheel so pressure plate can be installed in its original position.
  13. Remove clutch pressure plate and clutch disc from flywheel.
INSTALLATION:
  1. Position clutch disc and pressure plate assembly on flywheel, noting following:
    1. Three flywheel housing to block dowels on flywheel must be properly aligned with clutch pressure plate.
    2. Bent, damaged or missing flywheel housing to block dowels must be replaced.
    3. tart clutch pressure plate bolts but do not tighten.
    4. Avoid touching clutch disc face, dropping parts or contaminating parts with oil or grease.
    5. Align clutch disc using suitable alignment tool inserted in pilot bearing.
    6. To avoid clutch pressure plate distortion, alternately tighten bolts a few turns at a time, until they are all tight, then tighten to specifications.

  2. Install transmission to flywheel housing.
  3. Install engine rear plate to flywheel front lower housing bolts, then connect clutch release cable to flywheel housing and connect retaining clip.
  4. Connect clutch release lever cable to clutch release shaft, then install clutch release lever dust shield.
  5. Install starter motor.
  6. Lower vehicle, then install clutch release lever cable as follows:
    1. Lift clutch pedal to disengage clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft.
    2. Push clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft forward and hook end of clutch release lever cable over rear of clutch and brake pedal pivot shaft.

  7. Cycle clutch pedal several times to adjust clutch release lever cable

How do i aline the cluch plates on a dt125r


Hi Ma_beveridge,

I guess ,since its 10splines you ought to fit in 5 steel plates ,just make sure that no steel plates come into contact with each other except with the clutch plate in between them.
