D-Link wifi router connected to DSL SpeedStream 5200 modem

I have a D-Link Dir-615 wifi router that I purchased in Florida and it worked with a BrightHouse modem connected from the enet port to the enport on the D-Link modem. We have returned to Arizona where I have a SpeedStream 5200 modem connected to a DSL line using a usb cable directly to my laptop. I want to connect the SpeedStream to the D-Link via the enet port to use the wifi but the two units do not see each other. I have tried several different enet cables, used all of the ports, powered off both units, reloaded the software, pressed to reset buttons, etc. The 5200 manual says that if I power off all of the devices, plug in all the cables and then power the 5200 up that the enet port light should light and the connections should connect automatically. Our DSL techs have told us that this type connection should work. Any ideas? Thanks.

SOURCE: speedstream 4100 does not work with router

you can't.
when the item name as modem/router. it means the main function is modem with added router function.
you can't connect 2 router/modem together. both need access to the internet and IPS for it function correctly.
however, you can connect 1 modem and one router.

SOURCE: connecting a Linksys Cable/DSL Router to a speedstream modem

I have a steps by step guide on how you setup the router.

  1. First you need to connect the device together. You need to connect your cable modem to the internet port on the back of the router, and the computer should go to one of the 4-port on the router labeled Ethernet (1, 2, 3, 4).
  2. Then turn on the modem first, wait for the lights to stabilize before powering on the Linksys router.
3. If the internet is still not working; we will need to adjust a setting on the router setup page. To access the setup page of the router you need to open your internet explorer or Firefox on the computer that is hardwired directly to the router. In the address bar of your browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox) type http://192.168.1.1/ and hit enter or click Go. It will ask you for a username and password. Just type "admin" for the password field and there is no username. If you have ran the setup CD prior to this, then use the password that you have set when were running the setup CD.

4. Once you are in the setup page of your router make sure that the Internet Connection Type is set to Automatic Configuration DHCP, then click the save the settings button at the bottom of the page. After saving the settings, click the sub tab at the very top of the page that says MAC Address Clone. Set it to enable and click the button that will say Clone or Clone your PC's MAC and save the settings again.
5. After doing step 4, do a power cycle. Power cycle is done by turning of the router, modem and computer. Leave them off for a minute, tuned them back on in this order. Modem first wait for the lights to stabilize, then the router wait until the power light become solid. Then turn on the computer. This will get you online through the router.

Check if this will help get the router online.

I purchased a D-Link Wireless N 150 Router, Dir 600L. I am unable to setup the same. Do I need a Modem also to setup this router or I can setup without a modem?

You can setup a wireless network without a modem. It will allow you to share printers, files ect. The modem is required for an internet connection only. The modem basically translates the Ethernet traffic in to a signal that can be carried over your respective service, DSL over a POTS line or broadband over a coax cable. The word modem stands for MOdularDEModular note the word MODEM in there.

I'm trying to connect a D-link DIR-615 router to my inlaws computer. They have an old motorola external modem which works fine, the new router is connected properly to the power suppy, ethernet cable from...

You haven't mentioned who is your Internet Service Provider (generally motorola modems are used by cable connections). After connecting the cables properly, you power cycle the modem and the router if this is a cable connection. However, if this is a DSL connection you better contact the ISP and fetch further information. Please contact me again if you need further information.

I JUST BOUGHT THE D-LINK DIR-615 (N300) _ WIRELESS ROUTER, IT TELLS ME TO HOOK UP TO MY MODEM BUT I DO NOT HAVE A MODEM, I HAVE DSL BUT IT IS RUN FROM THE OUTSIDE BOX ALONG WITH MY TV AND PHONE, MY DSL...

The router needs to have a modem to run off from, Even DSL provides modems if you do not have a modem then your DSL ISP (Internet Service Provider) did not provide you with one. I would suggest to follow the ethernet cord and see where it plugs into. You will need a modem to use a router.

How can i install my router w/o a intstallation

The router can be configured with a wired connection by going to 192.168.0.1 with a username of Admin and a blank password by default. The configuration will vary depending on the type of modem you are connecting to such as DSL vs. Cable etc. the users guide is available at http://www.dlink.com/products/?tab=3&pid=DIR-615&rev=DIR-615

If I can help further let me know. Good Luck
