Question about HP Pavilion dv8000z Notebook

When connected to mains adapter the 2 left side LEDs on the front of the computer {standby+mains connected]start to flash and doesnt charg

Dv8000 laptop//// when i put in charging jack the 2 blue lights on the front of the computer {next to the hd led}just start flashing and will not charge the battery

This happens when the battery will not hold a charge. You will need a replacement battery if you want that light to go away.

If the battery has not been like that too long
put in a plastic bag and freeze overnight
let thaw until room temp
insert battery
plug in jack
do not power on laptop
let charge for1 hour
then try

Charging battery compaq presario c700


If you can reach inside the computer and rub the battery contacts gently to remove the corrosion ,which is invisible , this will help greatly. Sometimes even a new battery will suffer the same. Clean the battery contacts also turn off the laptop and charge it fully do this on a regular basis. Say once every 2 months

The front of your computer is the Front Panel.
The area of contact pins on the motherboard, that the main wires go to from the Front panel, is the Front panel header.

Motherboard installed in computer, the Front panel header is at the Bottom/Right.
Two rows of 7 pins in a small black rectangular plastic block.

TOP row of pins is numbered EVEN.
BOTTOM row of pins is numbered ODD.

Starting on the LEFT side going towards the Right, TOP row:
Pins 2, 4, 6, 8, (NO 10), 12, and 14. Again, there is NO Pin 10.

Starting on the LEFT side going towards the Right, BOTTOM row;
Pins 1, 3, 5, 7, 9, 11, and 13.

A) Pins 1 and 3 are for the HarDDrive activity LED. (Light)
Pin 1 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.
If the HDD LED is dim when the harddrive is active, switch the wires around.

2) Pins 5 and 7 are for a Reset switch, IF a Reset switch is used.

3) Pins 2 and 4 are for the Power On LED (Light)
Pin 2 is for the Positive ( + ) wire.
If the PWR LED is dim when the computer is on, switch the wires around.

4) Pins 6 and 8 are for the Power On switch.

5) The rest of the pins are N/C. Not Connected.

My HP Pavilion Dv 5000 notebook stop working: no power and the power Led is off. I opened it and tested the power cable which is OK; I checked all over the motherboard looking for some damaged or burnt...


Of the two LEDs at the left front of the notebook, if the left-most one is blinking, then the notebook is in standby. If the left-most one is off and the one to the right of it is blinking, then the notebook is in a low battery condition and quite likely the notebook had initiated hibernation. If you had the AC adapter plugged-in for some time and the low-battery condition persists, then likely the adapter has failed. Normally you would just press the power button to restore from hibernation but if the system had initiated hibernation due to a critical low-battery condition, the system may not respond unless you have inserted a fully-charged battery pack. Here is an excerpt from page 38 (Chapter 3 Power) of the HP Pavilion DV5000 User Manual....

*If the system initiated hibernation because of a critical low-battery condition, connect external power or insert a

charged battery pack before you press the power button. (The system may not respond if the discharged battery pack
is the only power source.)

My pioneer vsx 815 amplifier has a flashing blue standby light. Have tried resetting by pressing enter and advanced surround keys. All it does is flash a few other LEDs and then goes back to the flashing...

"enter and advanced surround keys"? I don't see that documented as a special function in the manual.

BTW: other than the Flashing light, is there a malfunction?

Page 72 describes how it REALLY resets...

Resetting the main unit

Use this procedure to reset all the receiver's settings to the factory default. Use the front

panel controls to do this.


1 Switch the receiver into standby.


2 While holding down the TONE button, press and hold the STANDBY/ON button for about three seconds.


3 When you see RESET? appear in the display, press ENTER .

OK? shows in the display.


4 Press SYSTEM SETUP to confirm.

OK appears in the display to indicate that the receiver has been reset to the factory default
settings.

MacBook Air 11" won't power


1. Verify AC power presence with MagSafe LED indicating on or charge state.
2. Verify battery as being partly charged, with orange/amber LED on MagSafe power connector.
3. Reset SMC
Resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) The System Management Controller (SMC) is a chip on the logic board that controls all power functions. If the computer is experiencing any power issue, such as not starting up, not displaying video, sleep issues, or fan noise issues, resetting SMC may resolve it. To reset SMC: 1. If computer is on, turn it off by choosing Shut Down from the Apple menu. 2. Connect power adapter to computer and to a working power source. 3. On built-in keyboard, press (left-side) Shift-Control-Option along with power button just once. Important: Use Shift-Control-Option keys on left side of keyboard. Note: When the LED on the MagSafe connector is orange/amber, resetting the SMC will change it to green for a few seconds, indicating that SMC was correctly reset. 4. Wait 5 seconds and press power button to start computer. Note: If bottom case is removed, you can alternately reset SMC by disconnecting both power adapter and main battery, and holding down power button for 5 seconds.

Power Adapter Issues 1. Connect AC adapter's MagSafe connector to the computer. The LED on the connector should be green or orange/amber. 2. Verify power cord or duckhead is firmly attached to AC adapter. Check that duckhead is not damaged. 3. Verify AC power source is supplying AC power. 4. Check for dirty or stuck pins on the MagSafe connectors, both on the adapter and the computer. 5. Reset SMC by pressing the (left) Shift-ControlOption(Alt) keys along with the power button once.

Yes you can charge your player through main. All you need is a converter which connects to the usb cable to the plug. They are available in the market so you will need to look for it. Or you may find it at any electronic store.

nope this is not normal. I have a article included below from hp. read this and you will understand the problem and also some ways on how to fix it. The blinking lights is a code on where the system fail or what component that fails.

HP Black screen error codes

Support details

This document pertains to HP Notebook PCs with the HP Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) beginning in late-2008.
On startup, you may see a blank screen. If the diagnostic utilities detect a specific problem with hardware components, the fan turns on, but the screen remains blank. To help identify the cause of the problem, various LED lights on the keyboard blink a series of codes.
The diagnostic utilities use the LEDs near the Num Lock or Caps Lock keys to blink a series of error codes. At the end of the series the blinking stops. The pattern of blinks will occur any time you attempt to start the computer until the error is resolved.

Battery power LED blinks

The Battery power LED indicates the condition of the power supply. When starting the computer, or when the computer is in operation, use the chart to identify the power condition.

Battery low charge or failure
Battery power LED blinking Battery Insufficient charge on the battery

LEDs near Caps Lock and Number Lock keys blink when starting notebook
The LED lights near the Caps Lock and Num Lock keys will blink if an error is detected during the start up process. The LEDs will blink a number of times in a sequence and then stop. The number of blinks in the sequence indicates what component caused an error when it was being tested during start up.

If the LEDs stop blinking and the computer does not start, you can press the power button again to repeat the tests. Count the number of blinks, and use the chart to identify the error condition.
Knowing the number of blinks is helpful when you contact an HP support agent for technical help.
Caps Lock/Num Lock LED Component Tested Error Condition

LEDs blink 1 time CPU CPU not functional
LEDs blink 2 times BIOS BIOS corruption failure
LEDs blink 3 times Memory Module error not functional
LEDs blink 4 times Graphics Graphics controller not functional

Error code explanations
The sections below provide some common explanations for each error code listed in the table above.

AC Adapter not connected or battery low charge
When the computer is on battery power only and the AC adapter is disconnected, if the Battery Power and Caps Lock / Number Lock LEDs do not glow, there is either a very low change or no charge in the battery. Connect the AC power adapter, verify that the battery power LED glows, allow the battery to charge for 15 - 30 minutes and then attempt to start the computer. If it starts, run the battery test and calibrate the battery. If it does not start, if possible, connect a replacement battery to verify that the battery is the problem.

If the computer does not start after charging the battery, remove the battery and connect the AC power supply. Verify that the battery power LED glows, and then attempt to start the computer. If the LED still does not glow, either the AC adapter has failed, or there is a bad connection between the adapter and the system board. If possible, connect a different AC power adapter to verify that the adapter is the problem, or contact HP for support which may require a service event.

Insufficient charge on the battery
If the battery light LED (which looks like a lightning bolt ) flashes, the battery has insufficient charge to start the computer. To resolve this error, try the following solutions.

*
Connect the notebook PC to AC power and attempt to start the computer again.
o
Check the AC adapter to confirm that all of the plugs are securely seated.
o
Determine if the power LED on the AC adapter is lit (if available) to verify that the computer is receiving AC power from the wall outlet.
*
If the computer operates on AC power correctly, charge the battery for thirty minutes to one hour and then restart the computer.
NOTE: Charging the battery for this length of time is called "trickle charging". Trickle charging is a continuous constant-current charge at a low rate, which recharges the battery slowly when it is in a deep discharge state. Deep discharge occurs when a battery is left unused for extended periods of time.

The computer processor (Blink code 1) has stopped functioning properly. Contact HP for assistance.

BIOS corruption failure
If a BIOS corruption error occurs (Blink code 2), you may not even notice the blink codes, because as soon as the computer recognizes the error, it restarts, attempts to recover the BIOS, and then restarts again. You may notice an extra-long startup process as a result, and a message indicating that the BIOS has been recovered may display on startup. If this occurs, update the BIOS on the computer. For more information, refer to the HP Notebook PCs - Locate and Install Updated BIOS, Drivers, and Software .

Module error not functional
If you experience a memory failure (Blink code 3), follow the guide in the table below.
If Using Original Memory If New Memory Is Added
Reseat the memory.

If reseating the memory does not resolve the problem, try replacing the memory with new memory. Reseat the memory.

If you continue to experience this error code after reseating the memory, the problem may be with the memory itself. Take the new memory out of the computer, put the original memory back into the computer, and then retest it.

If you do not feel comfortable reseating the memory yourself, take the computer to a computer retailer and ask them to reseat it for you.
NOTE: Some memory module errors may allow the computer to start but will then cause the computer to restart and display a blinking error code.

Graphics controller not functional
If you experience a graphics controller failure (Blink code 4), contact HP for assistance.

General system board failure
A general system board failure (Blink code 5) is the failure of a component not covered by the other LED error codes. Contact HP for assistance.

BIOS authentication failure
The BIOS authentication error (Blink code 6) is extremely rare. It is the result of a discrepancy between the BIOS and the hardware that is installed on the computer. This error occurs when the BIOS cannot authenticate signatures from the hardware on the system. The purpose of the BIOS authentication is to be sure that no one has tampered with the BIOS on the computer.
If a BIOS authentication failure occurs, the computer automatically performs a BIOS recovery. If the computer does not automatically recover the BIOS, manually perform a BIOS recovery. To manually perform a BIOS recovery, press all four arrow keys at the same time to cause the BIOS to go to the EFI partition to find and recover the current BIOS.

If a PC suddenly fails to boot properly, you should perform a hard reset as the first action. Performing the hard reset will correct many problems. If the computer still does not start properly, select your symptom from the list below to guide you to the recommended corrective actions.
  1. Disconnect all peripheral devices and remove all USB devices and SD media cards. You want to test the computer not the accessories!
  2. Disconnect the AC power adapter, remove the battery, and then press and hold the power button for at least 15 seconds to drain all residual power and restore default startup settings.
  3. Reconnect the AC power adapter (but do not insert the battery), Press the Power button, Look for glowing LEDs near caps lock and num lock keys, and Listen for sounds of a fan or other moving parts turning.
  4. If the computer does not start, the LED lights do not glow, and the display is black, you can perform one or more of the following actions to resolve the no power issue.
    • Verify the computer is receiving power from the AC adapter . Verify that the AC adapter is not damaged and is connected correctly to a working wall outlet plug. Verify AC power is connected to the system board by examining the AC adapter, wiring, and pin connection for damage. The keyboard LEDs will glow when AC power is connected to the system board. Damaged components, like the AC adapter or the pin in the power connector, may require an HP-certified repair.
    • Use a different AC power adapter . If you have access to a different AC adapter or power pack that is designed for the computer, connect it to the notebook and try to start the computer. If you own or have access to more than one notebook, verify that you are using the adapter which belongs to the notebook. CAUTION: Using a power adapter that does not meet the power requirements or has the wrong type of connector may damage the computer. On newer notebook models, connecting the wrong adapter to the notebook may cause the power LED lights to blink but not power the computer.
    • Remove the battery and boot on AC power only . A discharged or defective battery may prevent the AC adapter from supplying enough power to start the computer. To verify that power from the AC adapter is available for PC; remove the battery, connect AC power adapter, and press power button. If available, try using a different AC adapter, that is rated for the PC, and repeat this test.
    • Remove the AC adapter and boot on battery power only . A defective AC adapter may not charge the battery and prevent the computer from booting on battery power only. To verify battery power available for the PC; connect AC power adapter, allow battery to charge for 30 minutes or more, disconnect the power adapter and press power button. If available, try using a fully charged battery, of the same type, from another computer and repeat this test.
      • If LEDS do not glow and the fan or hard drive do not spin, battery may need to be replaced.
      • If tests of both the battery and the AC adapter fail, there may be a problem with system board requiring service by HP.
      • If LEDs glow and PC boots, the AC adapter may need to be replaced.
      • If LEDs glow, but PC does not boot go to LEDs glow, fan is heard, but display is black or blank section.

Remove the power adapter and the battery. Hold the power button in for up to 60 seconds to discharge the laptop. Re-apply power and try booting the laptop.
