The light bulb went out on my Hampton Bay Sidewinder 04890 Ceiling Fan. How do I remove the light cover to get access to the bulb? I tried turning it counter-clockwise, but there are 3 large white "clips" that are in the way, and I don't know how to remove those.

I had the exact same problem. To solve it, I had a friend hold the area of the fan that the globe screws into. I wore rubber dish gloves to get a good grip and pushed up slightly on the globe as I turned counter-clockwise. My friend held the other part and turned clockwise a little as well. It took a lot of pressure for it to finally come loose and then we just turned it about another 90 degrees and the globe slips right out of the groove.
I couldn't believe how hard this was to do.

THE FAN IS ACTUALLY A WINWARD II BY HAMPTON BAY. ACCORDING TO INSTRUCTION MANUAL YOU TURN THE GLASS BOWL COVERING THE LIGHT ASSEMBLY UNTIL IT MAKES CONTACT WITH A COUPLE OF GROOVES IN THE RIM AND THE GLASS ASSEMBLY SHOULD RELEASE. I DID NOT RECEIVE ANY HELP FROM "FIXYA" BUT MAYBE THIS INFO WILL HELP SOMEONE ELSE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. THE MODEL # OF THE HAMPTON BAY FAN WAS 523 342. (I FOUND MY INSTRUCTION MANUAL AND THIS IS WHERE I GOT MY INFO)

Try twisting the bezel (cover) counterclockwise to unlock it from the mounting base plate on the ceiling. The other option is to see if the bezel/cowl has fasters (screws) holding it in place either from the sides near the top edge or at the bottom nearest the narrow portion of the cover.
Sometimes the fan cowl bezel is fastened using screws at the point nearest the motor shaft.
There could also be a trim ring that needs to be gently pryed off from the edge nearest the ceiling, so you can gain access to the screws that are holding the cowl in place on the mounting plate. There are usually 2 sets of 2 screws placed 180 degees apart from each other that secure the cowl in place.
I hope you find this Very Helpful and best regards!

This is a universal suggestion, not specifically for your model. There should be a small switch just under the blades ... one position is for summer the other for winter. Move the switch up or down to change the direction of rotation.
