Question about Hotpoint 23 in. BFI62 Built-in Dishwasher
It starts ok fills and washes the dishes on the 1st part. It made a loud girring sound then stopped. I noticed the dishes quite warm and half washed but with water still at the bottom of the machine. I cleaned out the water as it would not start again. When I did this it did the same again. Do you think it is the drain pump at fault??? Is this something I could fix myself ?? I've never had the back off it or anything so no idea how big a job that would be. A glass had broken in the machine about a week ago so I don't know if that has anything to do with it. I don't mind having a go as hubby is useless at that sort of thing where as I don't mind trying (just fixed my bissell carpet cleaner). Apart from that I tried to ring 10 appliance repair centres and not one of them answered the phone. Thanks Ferretface from the UK
I would assume the culprit is the glass in the pump housing. Taking out the pump is a teadious and time consuming task but can be done. Varies from model to model. Usually when hard debris gets into these pumps, unless there metal, it demolishes the plastic impeller blades and the pump must be replaced. If you wish t tackle this let me know ^_^ ill find you a new pump n the net fr the cheapest price if needed. Try taking the punp out first and cleaning it out as much as possible and let me know !

As I had no idea what I was doing I got a picture of the drain pump off the internet. When I took the bottom of the dishwasher off I identified the part from the photo. I could not undo the large seal clips so unscrewed the other end. Inside the pump I saw a red wheel and tried to move it with my screwdriver but it would not move, after some shaking and poking a piece of glass fell out and the wheel moved smoothly. I put it all back together and ran a cycle. The machine drained and I thought all was well but a light started to flash and the machine stopped. I rang Hotpoint who said it was a leak in the tray and they wanted to send an engineer out at a large cost. I realised that I may not have put the pump back correctly so took it apart again !!!! sure enough there was a part at the back I had not clicked in correctly so re fitted it. I then dried it all with a hairdryer and tried again.
It worked and has been working for about 4 days now so it was worth all the effort.
Many thanks
Liz
