Re-Connectivity to Comcast Modem

A year ago I set up a Netgear WPN824 router with a Comcast modem. Recently, Comcast did something and the router stopped working. I can connect directly to the Comcast Modem and I do get throughput. Comcast refuses to help saying the router is defective. I connected the router to another cable modem from a different ISP and everything worked from the "get-go". So what's up with the Comcast Modem?

All you need to do is "MAC ADDRESS CLONING". Access the router's setup page and look for MAC Clone settings. Enable that and clone the mac address of your main PC. After that, perform a power cycle. Turn off the router then the modem. Wait for 30 seconds then power on the modem first, wait for all the lights to go solid then power on the router. That should do it.

I recently purchased a Netgear N600 Wireless router connected to my Comcast Motorola Surfboard SB5120 modem. I have a Comcast plan of 20 Mbps but through www.speedtest.net am consistently getting 8 Mbps...

I think its the modem that you need to upgrade. Comcast is already running on DOCSIS 3.0 system. The SB5120 modem that you have is a DOCSIS 2.0 modem. You may need to have your modem replaced with a DOCSIS 3.0 modem like the Motorola SB6120.

My new/replacement modem: Motorola 2210-02, will not work with my old Netgear WPN824. I've tried everything I can think of, and I do not want to buy a new router. Any suggestions??? -Terru

If the modem and the router both want to be on 192.168.1.1, try setting the router to go to 192.168.2.1, or see if your ISP can provide you instructions for turning the router portion of the motorola off (Bridging the modem is the technical term). At that point they may be able to provide you with how to setup the router to work on your connection as the primary connection holder.

WPN824 Transmitting Signal, no internet.

As a last resort, you can reset your router by holding down the reset button in the back. It doesn't sound like this will fix the problem however. Purchasing a new router shouldn't be necessary, as most if not all Netgear routers come with a 1 year warranty standard.

Netgear WPN824 router

You can set up your router manually, without the CD.
Make sure that your computer is able to go online directly through the modem.
If your computer is able to go online through the modem, that means the modem is working fine.
You will need to connect the computer to the router and the modem to the router.
open the set up page of the router and change the settings of the router according to the ISP.

Netgear wgt624 just stopped connecting to internet

I encountered the same problem, with the same modem and also Comcast, and here's what wound up working for me, after time spent with a nice guy on the Netgear customer support line:

1. Log into router: http://192.168.0.1 (or 192.168.1.1) - user: admin / password: password

2. Under Maintenance, click Router Status. If IP Address is listed as 0.0.0.0, there's your problem-- router isn't getting address from modem.

3. At bottom of Basic Settings, under Router MAC Address, change selection from Use Default Address to Use Computer MAC Address.

4. Click Apply.

5. Click Router Status again-- non-blank IP address should now be listed.

6. Basic Settings will now show MAC address under Use This MAC Address. See if you can get online now. I could, and I hope you can, too!

Sounds link you need to setup PPPoE on your router. Not knowing who your ISP is, Netgear has this website that lists a lot of ISPs support on setting PPPoE up. that is located here: Netgear

If you can't find the info there, basically what you need to do is on your router, typically the main page, you might see an area that lists: DHCP, Static, PPPoE (or something similar). What you need to do, is select the PPPoE option and put your ISP login information (that is on your DSL modem now) there should be a connect or login button once your finished. Once that is done, your router does the logging in, instead of the modem.
