Screnn only displays flashing "AV--" and flash doesn't pop up

It depends on what setting your main top dial is set on? The flash will not pop up if you have your main dial set on P, Tv, Av, M, A-DEP . If you are using one of these setting you have to manually turn on the flash by pressing the small button on the side of the lens with a Flash icon next to it.
The only time the flash will automatically pop out is if you are using AUTO, Portrait, Close Up...etc. these icons would be underneath the Auto setting which are called Scene Mode, hope this helps ?

There is shorted component/s in the power regulator section to your TV. Check and replace them.

Hi, What external flash did you use on your Canon 60D? The internal flash will not automatically pop up if in the "Creative Zone" it will pop up with the button in the creative zones (M, AV, TV and P) it will not pop up with the button if you are in the the full auto mode (that's the little green box mode) but, should pop up automatically if required. The flash should pop up automatically in the basic zone for Portrait, close up and night photography, the button won't activate (pop up) the flash. Also the internal flash will not pop up if there is an accessory in the hot shoe. Again what external flash was it you used and did it flash?

Macromedia Flash Player was installed on your computer at some stage. This player is used by a few WEB sites which displays movie like (Flash) files. When you go to a WEB site which displays Flash files, Macromedia can detect an older version of the Flash Player and prompts you to install a latest version of the Flash Player.

I had the same problem.
Look closely at the hotshoe. Inside it, way over to the side, under one of the tabs on the side, is a tiny metal strip. When you attach an external flash, the strip is pushed down and holds down a tiny button that deactivated the pop-up flash. The strip can get bent so that it doesn't let the button come up even when the external flash is removed.
Very gently take a fingernail or a jeweler's screwdriver and run it underneath the metal strip. I had to do it a couple of times to get mine working again, but it's working great now!

This will describe how, if you have been using a speedlite alot, than the little tab under the shutter release side of the hot shoe can get bent down thus constantly pressing down (toward the bottom of the camera) the small button which deactivates the pop-up flash even when the speedlite is not attached. Just bend the tab up a little with a jewler's screwdriver, turn the camera off and on and voila!! Fixed!!! Dan describes pushing the tab down, but on the xti, the tab needs to be bent up to release the flash deactivation switch and fix the problem. The flash icon appears in the upper left corner of display or it appears as circled flash icon? If flash is open and appears a circled icon, then there’s a malfunction contact that don’t communicate to the camera that the flash is open. Your camera needs service! Be sure the upper part of the flash is unfolded, pointing directly in front of the camera (not downward), because the sensor is just in this second folder. If the icon is not circled, press the right arrow until only the lightning symbol appears (forced flash). Try a shot! If the flash doesn’t pops, then your camera needs servicing (burned or broken lamp or other malfunctions).
