Question about Computers & Internet

My DVD-RW was working fine. I got a malware virus and had to do OS recovery. data was all fine and everything worked great. I updated all drivers. There was a lot of dust in unit and caked around internal fans. I cleaned it all out and put the cover back on. DVD-RW drive when accessed locked up machine HARD when loading games and when trying to create new recovery CD's, but random I took cover off and reseated and then replaced the DVE-RW cable. Worked better but still same issue. I reseated mem modules same issue. Lost on how to fix or where to look next.

Fougzki, I'm running XP Professional SP2 and using Norton Antivirus. The virus I got was the "Warning Dangerous Spyware" backgroup. It is gone after performing recovery.

Sodeep, Thank you for the advise. I will try this because come to think of it after i got system back up and running i did install a couple new DVD-RW utilities that came with the ZT for burning CD / DVS's, playing music and so on. I think I will do all as you suggested and uninstall the programs to see if that works. Thanks again and I will reply to you when done trying.

Now that the malware has been removed, unplug your DVD-RW completely(power & IDE cable slot) and start your machine. If you have any junk file cleaning software, run it and shut down. Reattach the DVD-RW and also update the driver too. Use a CD-DVD cleaner of a reputed brand to clean the DVD-RW drive by following the instructions of the cleaner. Enable DMA/UDMA support for this drive. Reinstall your CD/DVD Burning software if you are using one. Make sure the region is kept blank for the DVD, do not change it...........sodeep

If you can get into the computer and onto the internet at all, download Combofix here: http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/download/combofix/

And run it. Do not reboot your computer while it is running, be sure to let it complete, this usually fixes virus issues in minutes.

My dell desktop computer freezes and websites and information pops up out of nowhere constantly. I tried recovery, but can't seems to get that to work. Could you explain to me what's the problem? ...

sounds like your computer is infected with a malware or virus/spyware. aside from trying to use anti virus or malware programs, best thing to do is to completely reformat the hard drive and reinstall your OS and all your programs. for important data, create an backup and fully scan the backup for virus and malwares before you attempt to restore it back to your computer after reinstalling everything. feel free to let us know how it goes and if the info is useful with your rating

reinstall the operating system of your laptop. so that it will be a virus free. but before you do that back up first your important files in it. after the installation of operating system and the antivirus, retrieve your files. but before you do that you scan first your files for possible virus infections.

My laptop has a virus and i cant afford a virus disc

Most of the virus programs run on stealth mode and run along with some application injecting its threads into the Application threads stacked in process queue. If the antivirus program fails to remove or quarantine, this could be either due to non detection of virus code, or due to inefficient coding in the virus program to seize the operation of the Virus program and seize its operations.

In such a case it would be wise to create a onetime bootup disk with Anti-Virus program. Before the OS starts, Always perform an antivirus scan and reboot a clean OS. Reason being that when Windows OS loads the Kernal takes control of all Key operations and we wouldnot have the right privilege or access to remove the virus program. So we boot from a boot disk and run this antivirus program to remove any infected file or code from the system to have a clean OS.

I have a Gateway Notebook W3203u with problems in my Windows OS (vista) and cannot get it to boot. I did not make a backup DVD as I didn't have an external DVD to make one. Now I have no way to recover my...

Mostly the company provided recovery DVD re-partitions or at least formats your hard disk. In both cases your loose your data. If you have some data you need try this workaround.
You need a Vista installation DVD.
Here is what you do

1. Boot from the dvd and select to install vista.
2. You will be notified that your old system will be backed up to a Windows Old Folder on C:\. Accept this and proceed with your installation. (DO NOT PERFORM ANY FORMATTING OR PARTITIONING or else you will loose your data and recovery.)
3. Finish the windows installation.
4. At this stage it is recommended to install a good anti-virus with latest virus definitions updates in case your problem was caused by a virus.
5. When done open my computer and open c:\ drive their you will find a windows old folder with all your old files back up. Back up your files to an external media ( A CD, DVD, or external hard disk)
6. In this folder search for the word recover. from the list you will find either a recovery disk creator software or your computers recovery software itself. I have tried many models and this program launches you when you trigger it here. If the CD/ DVD creator works for you well and good. You don't need to read any further just go on create your DVDs. Else look for Recovery and open the program and continue the wizard. Make a Full factory recovery. (Be sure to make a back up of your old files before doing this). Good Luck

Booting up windows, now receiving "HID DATA has stopped working" msg respond "check online and close program" message box goes away and laptop seems to work fine anything to worry about? OS: windows...

Hi. HiD Data is basically a control driver base located in the system 32 file bank. these drivers control mouse, game controllers and keyboard functions as well. Usually when this message box comes up, it is signaling a sudden change that may have occurred during a failed boot session or, sudden changes in the windows system 32 file base. these sudden changes can happen when there is a windows update that isn't quite compatible with the current version of one or more of the HID driver components or, if the OS has experienced a virus hit or , malware.

This may not be an issue at this time but, if the message box frequency level increases, i would recommend reinstalling the OS by using the repair option or, the restore feature.

I keep getting a security alert that says I have 4 virus

That security alert is most likely one of the false positives that are running around the internet.
They tell you that you have a virus and then want you to pay them to get rid of it where in actual fact the only virus you have is them.
Try downloading, installing and running "malwarebytes" I have used this application many times to rid machines of the nonsense you are seeing.

Pioneer dvd-rw dvr-k17 problem

This sounds like you have a Virus or Some other type or Malware that has corrupted your drivers. Please Scan with Avast (http://www.avast.com/), Spybot S&D(http://www.safer-networking.org/), and Adaware (http://lavasoft.com/) all of witch have free versions.

Also it may be that your driver got corupted some othere way if it still does not work try roleing back your driver or updateing it.

Thank you,
Rel

P.s. if that does not work please come back and make sure you give the info that you have

scanned with the above and if you do not reply in this question then make sure you include all

that info with all the info you have already put here. Good Luck!

Have you tried the Compaq Application driver recovery?

Click on Start , All programs , and then Hewlett-Packard or Compaq .

Then, click on any of the folders below (just one of them will be available depending on the model of your computer):
  1. HP Pavilion PC Tools ,

  • Compaq Presario PC Tools ,
  • PC Help and Tools , or
  • PC Recovery Tools .
  1. Click HP or Compaq Application Recovery .
  2. Select Driver Installation and click Next .
Select which drivers are to be installed, If you don't have this console go to windows update to see if microsoft can auto update for you,
