Question about Garmin nuvi 205 GPS Receiver

2 Answers

Did I lose my map?

I registered my nuvi205, and "thought" I was updating my maps...but now it shows a start-up message that "No detailed maps found that support routing. The nuvi cannot be used without them." It was working fine before I attempted the registration and update. I can't figure out what happened or how/where to re-install the old map.

I get the message "No detailed maps found that support routing. The nuvi cannot be used without them." The GPS was purchased in late August 2008 and this is my first problem with it. Can't figure out what happend to cause this.

I have the same problem... brand new GPS & had no trouble until the
map download. I called Garmin & spent over 4 hours on hold before
reaching a support person. In talking with Tech Support & a few
emails later this is what I learned: "
Thank you for contacting Garmin International.

We spoke earlier today about your nüvi 205 and the map update. Since we
spoke, I have learned new information about the issue you're
experiencing. Apparently, the large part of it is a problem with part
of the update. Interestingly enough, it only affects the nüvi 205
models. Currently, the fix is in production and although they indicated
to me that it should be resolved tomorrow sometime, you may want to wait
until Thursday or Friday to attempt it because I'm not sure at what
point tomorrow they will release the fix (barring any delays, of
course). They indicated that to complete the fix, you must delete the
original download file, empty your recycling bin, and then download the
file once again. Although your attempts today may have been successful
in downloading and running the update, I am told that even in these
situations with the 205, you still receive the "Can't Unlock Maps" issue
because of this larger problem. I'm incredibly sorry for the
inconvenience as well as the fact that I was unaware of this at the time
of our conversation. Please let me know if the re-download does not
work when you attempt it after tomorrow. Thank you in advance for your
    continued patience."

I have tried to redownload & install the file, which is a looks like it was already a second edition as it ends as 2010B. Seems they're still working on the update.

Looks like we're all in the same boat for now until Garmin throws us a lifeline.

First you will want to empty your recycling bin & clear your temporary internet files before re-downloading the Garmin_RMU_2010B.exe file. Below is the remainder of the fix I received from Garmin support and it worked for my unit. Hope this helps.

1. Extract the downloaded file Garmin_RMU_2010B.exe using 7zip(7zip.org) or WINRAR.

http://downloads.sourceforge.net/sevenzip/7z465.exe 32 bit
or

http://downloads.sourceforge.net/sevenzip/7z465-x64.msi 64 bit
2. After extracting, the files should be available at the location where you extracted the files.
3. Go to the extracted file location. Click on the Windows folder.
4. Right click on the Setup.exe file and Click Create Shortcut
5. Right click on the Shortcut to Setup.exe file and Click Properties
6. In the target line add " -build_map_image 006-D0783-04 " at the end of setup.exe". For example the end would look like xxx\Setup.exe" -build_map_image 006-D0783-04
7. Click Apply and OK.
8. Double click on the Shortcut to Setup.exe the map file will be built. Leave the Window open till completion of all steps. 9a. Windows XP: Click on Start>Run, then type in %Temp%. Another window will open.
9b. Windows Vista: Click on the Start Button, in the Start Search, type %temp%. Another window will open.
10. The file is placed in subfolder named 006-D0783-04.
11. Copy the gmapprom.img file from the folder to the Garmin folder on the Nuvi. (Double click on MyComputer>Nuvi drive>Garmin folder) Overwrite the existing file.
12. The Nuvi should now have the lower 49 installed. If you have any trouble with this fix, or are not comfortable trying it please call our Software Support Department at 1-800-800-1020. Please be at a computer that has high speed internet access as we may need to log on to your computer to resolve the issue. Make sure you have the program extracted using the 7 zip program provided above. Hours of Operation Monday – Friday: 8 am – 7 pm Central time (closed holidays)

How do i reset my garmin nuvi 200w satnav it says no detailed maps found how can i reinstall them

Locate the reset button, located on the back of the device, in the lower left corner. Remove the sticker covering the button, and use a straightened paper clip to depress the tab.

To reinstall maps

Connect your Garmin Nuvi to your computer via USB cable. You can only update the maps through connecting to your computer.

Open the "myGarmin" website and sign in with your Garmin account. Make sure to sign in with the account that you've purchased the map updates on.

heres a link to the site;

http://my.garmin.com/mygarmin/login.htm.

Click the "myMaps" tab on the myGamrin dashboard. This will load a list of all of your purchased map upgrades.

Click the drop-down menu in the "Recent Map Purchases" section. Select your Garmin Nuvi from the list of devices.

Install the Garmin Communicator Plugin when prompted. This is required in order for the Garmin website to transfer the map files to your Gamrin software on your computer.

Download and install Garmin Express. This is the program that allows your computer to interact with your Garmin Nuvi.

Register your device in Garmin Express. If you haven't already registered your device, you'll be prompted to when you start Garmin Express. You'll need to register in order to update the maps.

Click the "Updates" tab in Garmin Express. This will show all of the available updates for your Nuvi, including the new map update you just purchased.

Click the "Show Details" option next to your Map Update. Click the "Install" button that appears. You will need to accept the agreement before the update installs.

Wait for the maps to download and install. Once you agree to the terms, the map update will begin downloading to Garmin Express, and will then be transferred to your Nuvi. This will likely take several minutes to complete.

Close Garmin Express and unplug the Nuvi when the update is complete. The Nuvi will reboot and begin installing the updated software on the device. This may take another couple of minutes.

If you weren't automatically prompted to install Garmin Express, you can download it from

http://software.garmin.com/en-US/express.html.

This is an indication that the map or map unlock key is either missing or corrupted. If you have registered your unit with Garmin, try connecting to your PC and try downloading the map again. More info on missing maps can be found here:
