You have to light burners on stovetop with a match all the time.
My oven works finally but I have to light the stove top burners with a match every time. I have an older model Tappan with the grill in the middle of the stove top. Can you tell me if maybe I am not seeing a pilot that needs lite or what.

Re: You have to light burners on stovetop with a match...
The pilots for the range top are beneath the top of the range top. YOu will see them if they are there. YOu stove may use electronic ignition and you can hear the sparking when you turn the knob to the "light" position.
If it is electronic ignition, make sure the stove is plugged into an operating outlet

The two leads from the burner fit into a socket in the stove top. It's a bit tricky to get it in just right. If the three metal "legs" on the burner fit snugly into the three slots on the stovetop you did it right.
either the gas valve for that particular burner isnt opening,or if all burners are like this then the dual valve that feeds the broiler and stovetop has a bad stove top side of valve portion its underneath the oven cavity behind the lower pan drawer
You can raise the top lid of the stove to light the pilot lights for the top burners. The oven is controlled by a electric glowbar ignitor. Make sure the cord is plugged into a electrical outlet. If it is and the oven does not work the glowbar ignitor must be replaced.
Do not attempt if your stovetop is hot, you will get burned!!
This is an easy fix, the problem is your burners aren't lined up properly. Remove the iron grates (what your pots rest on) and the burner cap (the round black top on the burner) and finally the burner base (the round golden colored piece resting on the stainless stovetop). If you flip the base over you will see that it is keyed, meaning there is a grove that fits the indentation on the stove top. When you replace the base make sure to line the grove up with the indentation. If it's not flush with the stove top, slowly twist the round burner base until it falls into place. That's it!
