Back cover error on LCD won't go away

I have a Brother DCP-7020 and after opening the back cover yesterday, the LCD keeps saying that I need to close the back cover. I have tried powering it on/off, taking all the paper out of it and even slamming the back cover. Nothing seems to work. I need help!!!

Is there a way to trick the machine to think that the back cover is closed until I can get it fixed?

I am having the same problem on my machine. I tried everything possible. Can't find my owner's manual to make sure that what I see as the back cover is indeed that. I've opened & closed everything that I can open & close. I've turned power on & off. Where would I find this switch / lever to see if it is defective? What tab are you talking about ...for me "to stick something in the hole"?

This problem started what some paper got jammed in the copier a couple days ago. Every thing got cleaned out ...but the copier will still not work.

Am I able to download a copy of the owner's manual through you?

    please respond to email: mark@earthscape.ca.

This is most likely caused by the back cover switch. It is either broken or the lever on the back cover is broken off.

Well if the switch is defective, youll have to defeat it internally, but if its the tab just stick something in the hole.

I had a paper jam and opened the front of the printer, removed the drum, then fixed the paper jam adn put the drum back in. After I did this the LCD now says close back cover and I never even opened it. i have no idea how to fix it and I can't print or scan anything.

Brother DCP 7020 error 'back cover open close

  • Open the back cover.
  • Pull the flap down that hides the orange roller on the fuser (be careful: it's hot)
  • Locate the inner flap that runs from the centre to the right hand side.
  • 3/4 along the right hand side, there is a tiny little perpendicular appendage on this bar that should sit in a slot. Locate it properly and the error will go away. You can go that by slightly bending the slot if fits into on the inner flap. The appendage can get jossled out of the slot when one is removing jambed paper.
