I don't have a sim card yet. The phone is asking me to insert one and I seem unable to do anything else with the phone. Is there a way to begin to get familiar with the phone before I get to England and put in a sim card? Thanks -Chuck

Re: No sim card
The device wont "boot" without a sim card.
You can read about it on the Motorola Website.
Otherwise, you can ask one of your friends to borrow a sim card. I assume that if youre going to use it in the U.K. it is unlocked. If it is, any sim will work.
Best of Luck.

check the same sim card with other gsm phone, if that is working! Then there is something wrong in the phone and if the phone is in proper condition and the sim card when inserted is asking for code, then please contact the service provider of that sim...
Yes you can use your mobile by inserting another sim card,but first you should know the security code.After just you have inserted the new sim your phone will automatically ask you to enter security.So, if you don't know the security code only one time (once) you can enter 0000 and in case if the 0000 doesn't help quickly contact mobile repairing shop.If you enter wrong security code repeatedly again it will ask you to enter PUK.So, for better result do what i said. Hi, when you place a new or a existing SIM card from another phone provider into your mobile phone and it asks for a Security code/unlock code then;
This phone is locked to the original mobile phone provider. You need to contact this mobile provider to ask for the unlock code (security code) for this phone. You need to provide proof of ownership etc and the phone's unique IMEI number which is located inside the phone under the battery. They use this number to generate the unlock code for your phone.
They should provide you with instructions on how to enter this code into the phone.
Once you unlock the phone, then you can insert a new SIM card in this phone or sign up with another phone provider using this phone.
You could ring the phone provider and ask for the unlock security code because you are going overseas and wish to use your phone with a prepaid SIM card from another country. This maybe a free service.
First switch off the phone then remove battery and sim card and memory card. then turn on the phone without this. try to lock.if it again unables to lock then insert the sim card, memory card and battery.
You can use P2K phone commander, it can dump all the phone data even with no sim card inserted.
Here you can get the program and the drivers
Do not delete anything! Since this software is not official and you can access some system files with it, deleting stuff at random will lead to unpredictable results
Dear dont panic , please try the below options
1.Try resetting the phone settings by removing memory card
2.Try with a different battery (Most of the times the battery leads creates problems)
3.Please try with a different sim card

You are trying to use a SIM from another Network or Handset but your phone is LOCKED to your old network and/or to a specific SIM card and number: this is why it is asking you for the unlock code to remove the restriction. It you are no longer under contract or obligations (such as minimum total recharge amounts for apre-paid handsets), then you could try to request the unlock code from the original service provider of your handset. As for asking to insert SIM card, make sure that the SIM is correctly and securely inserted in your handset SIM holder. Also check that the SIM is still functional by inserting it in another handset: SIM card can be permanently and physically disabled if you attempt to enter too many consecutive invalid codes (usually around 10). Hope it helps and good luck!
"Insert SIM" message is normally displayed on phones when a SIM card is not inserted on power-on or it does not detect the SIM card inserted.
No SIM card inserted or inserted SIM card is damaged
Inserted SIM card not positioned well in such a way as to make contact with the corresponding contact bridges on phone.
Phone locked to a specific network and can only work on other networks when the firmware version is "flashed", that is completely changed to an unlocked version.
The phone might be faulty (try with another good SIM, if you still get thesame message and its not one of the above reasons... it might be a transciever problem or the phone's SIM card slot's pins might be defective).
