You must be using vista...? Do you have internet connectivity? If you do have connection i wouldn't worry about identifing the network. If you cannot access the internet and the connection says something like limited or no connectivity, take the subnet of your modem (or router whatever the case may be) and static your NIC with a specific IP address.

Subnet? http://ask-leo.com/how_do_i_determine_the_subnet_mask_im_supposed_to_use.html

Static? http://hubpages.com/hub/How-to-assign-a-Static-IP-addess-on-WinXP

If none of this works i offer tech support walkthroughs at http://www.hoosierpcrepair.com

How can i install my wireless router to other laptop?

The same as 1st laptop.

1. Locate the wireless-network-connections option
on your computer or wireless device.
2. Select your Belkin Router from the list of available networks. You
can identify your Belkin Router by locating the network name
(SSID) from the card located underneath the foot of your Router.
3. Enter your network password (located on
your network information card).

How can I connect to the internet at a friends house

If their router has security settings, identify their network (lower right hand corner in the systray you should see bars, right click on them and search all available networks) after identifying the correct network, you will be required to type in the password to access the network.
Another way to use their internet would be to physically connect an ethernet cable from your laptop to their router/modem.

My laptop has suddenly stopped connecting to my home hub.it knows its there and tries to connect but 'times out' very very quickly. laptop identifies the hub and there is a strong signal just doesnt want...

Your router broadcasts your network SSID (network name) and that's what you should see in the "view other available networks" panel. If it's different to what you have set on your laptop, it's not going to connect. Also you must of course use the same WEP (network key) as all the other devices. Make certain the the IP's of all devices is set by DHCP, which is usually the default, but may have been changed.

Identifying network, unsecured network

Are you using the Dell utility to connect to networks ? Try setting the network you want to connect to as your "Preferred" network in your wireless utility on your laptop. Also, try moving the network to the top of the list. Doing this might set it as your "Preferred" network.

Using free wifi spots

If your laptop has wifi enabled, and you go to a place where there is a hotspot, you right-click on the little wireless icon in the system tray and choose "view available wireless networks." If one shows up and you can identify it, choose it and then click "connect."
But--beware--if you can't identify the network as being in the store/coffee house, etc where you are sitting, don't try to connect to it. This is an open invitation for identity thieves and other bad guys to get access to your computer.

Acer with Windows Vista does not connect to Internet

You're laptop needs to have a profile for the router. Go to Network and Sharing Center, Manage Wireless Networks. Please remove all the listed networks there. Now click on Add, then Add a Network in Range of this Computer. Select the wireless name of your router and connect. If it asks for a network key, please type your wireless security key then connect. That should do it.
