its simple. hold the "sel" button until the menu comes up and it will say hours use the volume button to change it. then use the next button to go to the minutes. then you can also change other settings under this menu. hit the "sel" button again to go back.

Your wires are probably backwards. the yellow one is for memory and it gets wired to direct battery voltage to hold the memory. The red wire is for power when key is turned on.
