Nordyne LP Furnace wont fire

Hi,
We have a Nordyne LP furnace and just recently it hasn't been turning on. We'll set the thermostat to the correct temp, and we can hear the furnace turn on and start to run, but it will never get to the ignition stage. We're getting 3 red flashes on it after ignition fails. Intermittently it will turn on, but will shut off before reaching the temp set on the thermostat, and it will not cycle back on.

Atwood 38591 Excalibur xt 1522 LP two stage furnace. Operates on high fan only

Hi Dave. I'm Roger. Its normal for a furnace to shut down completely when the set point on the thermostat is reached. The first and second stages are used when the temp. gets close to set point. The heat output drops to its low stage at around 3 degrees before set point. Check your owners manual for specifics on the fan though.

Make sure the gas valve is turned to the ON position after you had it in PILOT position. Also check the thermostat low voltage wiring @ furnace...jumper the Red & White wires to bypass the thermostat temporarily. Make sure there is 24 volts on you low voltage circuit.

Nordyne model FEH-017HA-04 furnace...the fan comes on full force with ac but not when furnace comes on

On newer furnaces the fan starts in a period of time factory set and is initiated by the control board. The air conditioning fan is started by the thermostat and starts right away when the stat calls for cooling. You will need a tech. familiar with this model and carrying the right parts to look it over. Does the furnace fire and then shut off in a few minutes? If so, it is most likely to be the board. Sorry. It may be pricy.

Have everything set up. Turned circuit breaker back on and the only way the furnace comes on is if I do it manually with the small white tab on the back of the furnace. I have a 2 wire forced air oil...

It could be either. But, I suspect it's a thermostat issue. More precisely, the thermostat wiring transformer may be bad. It will be either an 18 volt or 24 volt transformer. The voltage will be listed on the side of the transformer. If you have a voltage meter, you can check for power on each side of the transformer. That should tell you if it needs replacing.

Hope this helps you and thanks for choosing FixYa.

What's the deal? Wont shut off or respond to thermostat. . .

Red= power........White=heat.............Green=fan.................(grey)-(yellow)=cool .....these are the connectons. Disconnect these wires from the thermostat and know that red/power is the only wire that send power to the thermostat, and the rest sends it back to the unit to call for whatever,, red--to . white for heat... red to green for fan .... &red to grey for cool! OK! Turn all your power on, and use a jumper wire from red / green for fan and see if the fan comes on! Then move the jumper wire from red to green , to red / to white for heat and the fan , wait for 3 minutes before removing and going to the next step. Then red /to grey for cool and check if the outside comes on. Either you have a wire touching past the insulations and making a connection, a bad thermostat ,oe excessive wire lead touching the next connection.Thank you very much!

Honeywell rth230b won't shut off heat

Sounds like a relay sticking. Possibly in the thermostat or possibly the furnace relay at the furnace. The next time it happens, unplug the thermostat from the wall. If the furnace still runs then it's the furnace relay.

Hope that helps...
