Question about Sewing Machines

1 Answer

Powers up, then "all" lights are on and does nothing.

I have a pfaff 1471 that used to power up then switch right back off. It now powers up and stays on with all buttons lit up but wont do anything. I have had it for years from new but love it. I bought another 1471 recently for £250 on ebay but the tension is too loose on upper needle (even on tightest setting) and cant see how to fix it. I would love to use my old faithful again. I now have 2 useless machines!!!Any ideas? Thanks.

The machine that only lights up has a circuit board problem and should be seen by a technician. The machine that has a tension problem can probably be repaired by removing a piece of thread which is inside the tension discs.First do a tension test and then follow these instructions.
Normal 0 MicrosoftInternetExplorer4 /* Style Definitions */ table.MsoNormalTable {mso-style-name:"Table Normal"; mso-tstyle-rowband-size:0; mso-tstyle-colband-size:0; mso-style-noshow:yes; mso-style-parent:""; mso-padding-alt:0in 5.4pt 0in 5.4pt; mso-para-margin:0in; mso-para-margin-bottom:.0001pt; mso-pagination:widow-orphan; font-size:10.0pt; font-family:"Times New Roman";} (To do this test, adjust your tension setting to normal or medium or 5 or something in the middle. Raise the presser foot and pull the thread through the tension. It should pull easily!! Lower the presser foot and pull the thread. It should pull noticeably harder.)
If it doesn’t work this way then you probably have a piece of thread or lint stuck inside the tension discs. To remove it, turn the tension to 0 zero and raise the presser foot.Using a small screwdriver, open the space between the discs and spray with canned or compressed air. The stuff should come out. Do the tension test again to make sure you got everything and then try sewing again.

I just retrieved my Pfaff creative 1471 from a dealer in Annapolis where they were to have cleaned and tuned it up. It makes a strange sound in the shaft where the needle bar goes up and down and black...

I would assume these people being dealers and all, would know what they are doing, right?

My first reaction would be to just go back there before their warranty expires and have them correct this problem, which I suppose did not exist before they laid their mitts on your Pfaff 1471

Don't try to fix it yourself. You paid for the service and they must do it right.

Most important of all of all, don't continue using it bacause the problem will only get worse, and logically you will be the one they blame for it.
