    Hi,

I already called into Dell last night and gave them the Service Tag number and after about a half hour they told me they couldn't help me because my Plasma was outside the warrenty time period. They said I would have to go through a third party. He gave me some basic troubleshooting which was just unplugging the power source and plugging it back in which did nothing.

  • ldwalker20 Apr 15, 2009

o.k. so I unplugged everything from the T.V. and let it sit for an hour. I plugged the power source back in and still nothing. I plugged the red video wires back in and also check for any parts that may be frayed or exposed and there was nothing. Screen is still completely black.

How would I know where to start and what to fix if I open up the back of the T.V. I'm still not even sure what needs to be replaced. Help please??????????????

  • ldwalker20 Apr 16, 2009

I disconnected everything from the T.V. waited a while then plugged the power source back in. I turn the power to the T.V. back on. The blue power light shows solid blue but the T.V. is all BLACK like nothing is happening.

    Please advise?

If I do discover failed Capacitors and that's the problem are they easy to replace? How much do they cost?

I just finished repairing my second monitor with the same problem.... you would need to disassemble the monitor and search the power supply board for bad capacitors. the best way to determine if they are bad is be sight and feel. by sight they will appear to be leaking.... by feel and i find this the best way... run your finger along the tops of each capacitor... if it feels rounded on the top you need to replace it. likely the problem you are experencing is due to the backlights not lighting and as i've stated this is often the result of failed capacitors.

Before you go to the dealer, try disconnecting it from the wall for 15 minutes, disconnect all inputs, then plug it back in - do not reconnect any inputs. Turn it on and see if the line is still there. If yes, then off to the store you go knowing its a fault in the guts of the unit. If no, then reconnect the TV input and see. If it reappears then the fault is the signal not the TV.

    OR

unless you have had your tv going 24/7 since you first puchased it there should be no burn out. Plasma's usually have to be re-filled with plasma tv's after 7 years. It sounds like the rca cords (the yellow, red, white cords). There might be a small incision on the red cord because that is the video cord. white and yellow are audio I believe

    OR

Some important tips gleaned from the video:

    1. UNPLUG the unit. This is very important. You shouldn't save a few hundred bucks by fixing your telly yourself and then spend thousands on hospital bills.

    2. Use the pen and paper to create a diagram of the back panel of the screen so you can map out the locations of the screws so you won't have trouble putting them back. Take note of the screws for the smaller backing plate and the main backing plate. Don't mix them up.

    3. Use a desk lamp to illuminate the work area and the circuit boards that you'll need to work on.

    4. Take your time soldering. If you've had no experience soldering before, some practice is recommended. Soldering the circuit boards is fiddly work but once you get the hang of it, it will be quite easier. Don't burn yourself!

To learn more about TV repair for beginners (or even for experienced or expert repair individuals), I'd recommend that you check out this membership site on plasma television repair. It's a community full of resources (E-books, service and training manuals, schematics and support) and is quite a gold mine for anyone looking for comprehensive information on this subject and for anyone tired of scouring the net for scattered bits of information that you still had to put together.

Dell w4201c no picture just bright colored spots

Was this set moved or transported? Is it possible someone struck the screen even if mildly?

If you can take a few good pictures and post them somewhere on the internet and provide the location--seeing what it looks like might tell what is wrong.

A classic description: set comes on but is a black swirling cloud where images can be dimly seen but are not clear--gets a little better after a few minutes but never gets normal.

Try to use dvd player to play video to determine where the problems goes wrong either from the video signal of the cable provider or from the TV itself.

Dell 4201C Plasma 42" -

Hi, Mary.

This sounds to me like it is a bulb issue, and not something worse, like failed capacitors.
If that is the case, then yes, it is worth repairing it.

You need to get the old bulb out, either by removing it yourself, or by having someone take it out for you, and the take the old bulb to Fry's or BestBuy.

They both keep tv projection bulbs for flat screen tv's in stock.

I hope that I've helped you understand what is going on, and that it helped.

Have a nice day, and good luck.

My 42" plasma tv screen went black but there is still audo

The most likely the TV has a power supply related problem. The most common thing to go out is the circuit board that supply power to the screen. Commonly called a Backlight Inverter Board.
I can't say it's 100% the problem because I can't actually look at the tv over the internet.
If by chance the TV is still under warranty, go that route.
If not under warranty and If you have some electronic experience, you can purchase a Service Manual over the internet and diagnose the source of the problem and fix it by soldering in the new part. The Service Manual will give you circuit diagrams, test points, and part# lists. Usually, cost under $20.

I hope I shed some light on the subject for you.

Help - 15 mth old 42" edtv "plasma" black screen" have power and sound

First thing to check is if the back lighting has just failed... Power the set on and looking across the screen can you see a shadow of a picture happening? You might even use a flashlight to shine directly at the screen while you look at it from an angle.
