Rear brakes sticking on

Whilst reversing a friends 1991 Subaru Liberty, I noticed that the rear brakes stuck on when I come to a stop, when I released the clutch, the brakes released, can you tell me if this is a safety feature on these cars or were the brakes just sticking on.

Sticking handbrake

Has the vehicle drum brakes? Has the brake stuck because the vehicle has been parked for a while? If yes, the linings have just stuck to the drum, sometime just reversing the car will be enough to release it. If not remove rear wheels and bang the face of the drum with a hammer, Failing that the drums will have to come off by any means. (Slide hammer). Good Luck

Antilocking breakes when ford auto 1989 wont reverse, how to undo auto locking

your rear brakes are stuck on-this may be because the emergency brake cable has stuck and won't release-antilock braking system would not lock the brakes on-they only release the brake when that wheel stops rotating -cheers Denny

My '83 dodge ram van goes in reverse fine, but when i try to go forward, the R rear wheel spins, seems the L rear is jamming?? is this a diff or brake issue?

sometimes the emergency brake will stick even after it is released. Most drum brakes will still let it go backwards but not forward. I would pull the rear drums and check. If e/brake is stuck removing the left drum will be difficult. If so then you will have to manually adjust the brakes until drum loosens up. good luck

Stuck in park

There are actually 2 pink release buttons. The one at the right rear of the shifter is the brake interlock. The other one is at the left front with a cable attached to it and it is the reverse lockout. There are 2 steps to getting out of P. Try it without pressing the brake and you'll notice that you can't even move the stick to the right to leave P. Press the brake (or press the pink brake interlock tab down) and you'll be able to move the stick to the right and a little bit back toward R but you won't be able to get into R. That's where the other pink piece comes in. Push this pink piece straight towards the rear of the car and you'll bypass the reverse lockout.

This gets you moving but now to figure out why the reverse lockout is not working correctly. Anyone know the solution?
