Check the 'chip' on the cartridge (if it is a compatible version), or try cleaning your chip reader with some alcohol or isopropanol. (inside the printer where the cartridges will press against)

I have bought numerous cartidges for my epson dx8400, after trying to do a nozzle clean, it then tells me that it doesnt recognise the cartridges i have spent an absolute fortune please help

OK, were the cartridges genuine Epson cartridges, or an off brand? Because Epson and other manufacturers usually will guarantee that their brand cartridges work best with their brand of printer.

Also, if you bought them from a major retailer like Walmart, they'll accept exchanges and returns on defective items within 30 days, or so.

You can't print in black only mode because printer need all cartridges not empty to initialized and working.Don't try to refill this cartridges, it's have a chip and you need to reset it too.Just look in your are for non OEM ink cartridges.Thea are 2-3 times cheaper.

Compatible ink cartridges dx8400

Epson cartridges are microchipped.

Do your new cartridges carry the same chip?

If not, they will not work.

If all else fails, return them to the supplier and explain they are not recognised by your printer.

My epson r285 wont recognise compatable inks

My Epson R285 will not recognise compatible cartridges, mainly the black.I ran out of black ink and installed a compatible cartridge but it did not recognise it.To get the printer running I had to buy a genuine one which worked.I then ran out of all the other colours soon after and installed compatible ones which were accepted.I have now ran out of the black again but the printer will not accept the compatible cartridge. How can I solve this problem as the printer has accepted black compatibles before.
Thanks Padgy

Cartidge problem

Many "compatible" cartridges are badly manufactured or even labeld wrong. These can damage or block the connectors on Epson printers. your best bet is go buy new ink and try them, then if it still dont recognise, you could buy some ink cleaning cartiridges and give them a try - Google "Epson Print Head cleaning" Failing that go buy a new printer - Epson's are real cheap new.
