I can just guess , as there's not much information, I wonder if you have changed the graphics adapter settings from 32-bit to 16-bit ? or have chosen an alternate theme ?
right-click desktop and select personalize
click window color and appearance
click open classic appearance
select scheme and apply .

if you have a independent graphics card please go into the menu and make sure it's set at 32 bit color . good luck

Hi,

best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.
the service is completely free and covers almost anything you can think of (from cars to computers, handyman, and even drones).
click here to download the app (for users in the US for now) and get all the help you need.
goodluck!

Click with the SECOND (RIGHT for most users) mouse button, and choose "EXPAND". Pick a target folder. Then, tell Windows to look in this folder to find the "theme" files.

Try downloading the file once again and this time be carefull in saving it on your PC. To apply the theme, copy the file to "C:\Windows\Resources\Themes folder. Now come back to desktop, right click, choose Properties and use the particular theme.

Hope this helps, if so, rate me.. thanks- billa

Windows Vista Start Menu

  • Have you checked the default ( *.msstyles) file in the C:WINDOWSResourcesThemesaero.msstyles
  • To edit the start menu you should have Resource Hacker.exe which can be freely downloaded from http://angusj.com/resourcehacker/
  • To actually edit the file Open ResourceHacker.exe and go to File menu, Open...(option)
  • An Open file dialog box appears .
  • Navigate to the specified directoy and if the file is not shown ; select All Files(*.*) from the Files of Type dropdown Menu.
  • Now you should be able to see aero.msstyles (or whichever is the default *.msstyles file)
  • Click on that file and click on Open.
  • Unlike windows XP *.msstyles files you will not be able to see the bitmaps anywhere.
  • So all you have to do is click on Bitmaps on the left side of the tree view of ResourceHacker and select BITMAPS and go to Action menu ; Save [BITMAP] Resources and change the filename to *.bin
  • Note:save the files in a folder or there will be a large no of files in the wrong place.
  • Close Resource Hacker and Create A New Batch file(Create a text file & rename it as *.bat) in the current folder(where the *.bin files are
  • Edit the batch file and paste the following code: rename *.bin *.png
  • Save and run the batch file.
  • Instead of *.bin files you will see many *.png files
  • All these files are actually being used by windows Vista's explorer.exe
  • Among these files you have to search & find all the files which make up the Start Menu of Vista.
  • The only problem is that not only VISTA but even XP's Start Menu is made up of different images (AND not a single bitmap). So finding all the images takes time. But once you have done it, it's easy to customise the start menu.
  • If at all you want to change the images ,you have got to have a image editor and Use ResourceHacker.exe to replace the corresponding Binary files and save it as (say)aero1.msstyles.
  • To apply the theme you must find by googling, a uxtheme patcher which will let windows VISTA to use multiple themes and of-course a win Vista activator.

I hope I've tried my best to tell you all about windows Vista's Start Menu.Any questions can be mailed at:bhaskar_longhorn@yahoo.co.in

About themes

Step 1: Download Windows Vista UxTheme patch.
How to install
1. Login as a user with Administrative privileges -or- have Administrative credentials already.
2. Navigate to %systemroot%\System32
3. Right-click uxtheme.dll and click properties.
4. Take ownership of the file and close dialogs.
5. Repeat steps 3 and 4 for themeui.dll and shsvcs.dll
6. Right-click uxtheme.dll and click properties.
7. Give yourself (or group) Full Control permissions and close dialogs.
8. Repeat steps 6 and 7 for themeui.dll and shsvcs.dll.
9. Rename uxtheme.dll to uxtheme.old.
10. Rename themeui.dll to themeui.old.
11. Rename shsvcs.dll to shsvcs.old.
12. Copy patched files into %systemroot%\System32
13. Reboot the computer.
Step 1b: If you find the above too intimidating, download VistaGlazz and just run it, it automates the whole patching process so you don’t have to worry about it.
Step 2: Download a Windows Vista Theme and copy the theme to Windows/Resources/Themes folder.
Step 3: Right click on desktop and click on Personalize. From the page that pops up, click on Theme and choose your newly installed theme!
