You should be able to use the Fn - F5 buttons to activate the wireless card, or go through "View Network Connections" in windows to manually activate it.
After that you will be able to detect wireless networks in your area and link to them

ThinkPad R40 2897 lost all internet. No Wireless, No Ethernet No

check the device driver status of network adopters in device manager .if it shows any error then reinstall the device drivers again.
if you are using WI-FI then reinstall the drivers of your wireless device.
and don't forgot to reboot your system after doing so.
if the problem exsist then contact your ISP.
they will provide the settings if any and i hope you are able to apply setting for the internet connections.

IBM ThinkPad R40 No PowerUp

If the the ram is the problem of your system, there should be a power on light on the system. indicating that some of the component of the system is not working correctly. But since you mentioned there is no light, it is the possibility that the problem is the motherboard itself.
