Ususally when you use component in and its in black and white, there may be a cable plugged in wrong, try diff combinations of the three it wont hurt either sets

TV will not play blu ray (a LG blu ray player). Only LG logo comes up then black screen.

You have to use LG tv remote and press input.
Choose the option your blu-ray player is plugged into.
Any option that is not grayed out has something plugged into it.

ie., our cabel is componet2, our old vcr AV2, our dvd is HDMI3

Dvd plays in black only

Be sure dvd player is correctly connected. If you connect the yellow video composite out the dvdto the input on the tv that is not yellow you are probably trying to watch it thru the component in . The component in is 3 wires green blue and red. if all three are not connected the picture will have no color. If you have 3 wire connection on dvd connect it to 3 wire in on tv the other red and white are audio.

My dvd player is hooked up to t.v. but only plays movies in black/white

How is the DVD player connected to the TV? If you are using component video, check that the cables are connected correctly.

If you switch the order on two of the cables, the black and white result is common. So double-check that the red, blue and green connections (RPbPy) have been connected to both devices in the same order. Next try a different set of component video cables, in case one of the wires is damaged.

If possible, try a different type of connection to rule out a damaged input/output. Connect the TV to a different DVD player or the DVD player to another TV, if possible, to rule out similar damage.

Please add a comment with the connection type for additional support. I hope this helps.

I have a Philips 32'' LCD, when I hook a DVD it plays in black and white. It will play in color in side connecter only. Please help

The side connectors are usually composite connectors meaning the have a Yellow-video Red-right audio and White-left audio connectors. Now when you are connecting them to the back and you connect the Yellow wire from the DVD player to a component input which have Green,Blue and Red connectors to the green connector, you will get a picture, but it will be in black and white. Please take moment to rate my answer. Thanks...

Sony Bravia 40'' 1080p LCD HDTV** (KDL40S5100)plays black and white only from DVD player. Connected with yellow video wire only

If you plugged the yellow wire from your DVD player into the "Y" input of the TV this is to be expected. Please refer to for information regarding this.
You need to either see if the DVD player has component out, or see if there is a "Video-in" (that's yellow, not green in color) on the back of the TV and change to that input instead.

Screen is green when trying to play a DVD

I think DVD player is hooked with TV via component video input.

Check component video connections and make sure each color wire connect in same correspondence color in both units, TV and DVD Player.

Red to red, green to green and blue to blue.
