The LAN adapter is set and working, and maybe its the cable modem but im not quit sure how to configure anything i had someone do it for me last time. It says im receivng an IP address but my computer always asks me to renew itto see if it fixes the problem and it doesnt.

  • GunsMas Apr 16, 2009

    the autoconfiguration IPv4 was 169.254.132.105
the IPv 4 Subnest mask was 255.255.0.0
IPv 4 Default gateway had nothing, neither did IP v 4 DNS server, IP v 4 WINS Server.

  • GunsMas Apr 16, 2009

Sweet thanks where am i putting this all in because when i go to manually configure it asks me for an IP address subnet mask and a default gateway. Mind telling me where allt his goes!?

I didnt get any reply and i tried all of them.

Can you tell me what ip u are getting on the network card?

Click on the network icon in the bottom right and click the support tab, you should see IP Address, Subnet Mask & Default Gateway.

Tell me the numbers you see there also tell me what you see by Address Type

You should also check to see if you are getting an IP address on your network card from the cable modem, you may have to manually configure that.

Check Device Manage to see if the LAN adapter is enabled and working.

If not re-install the LAN driver.

Check the cable modem settings, can you configure the cable modem using your browser?

OK based on the IP address you've given me I can tell that your network card is not getting an IP from the cable modem. The IP you have there is automatically assigned by windows in the absence of a proper DHCP server.

You have 2 options now you can try to manually assign the IP address and connect to the modem or if u have the CD that came with it you can connect to it using a USB connection (most modems have a usb port) and configure the modem manually to give you an IP or at least see what address range it is using and configure your PC to suit.

If you don't have the CD and USB and you want to manually assign an IP address to your PC most modems tend to use 1 of 3 address, you can try either:
192.168.1.1
192.168.0.1
10.0.0.1
to connect to the modem (if you use a ping command from the command prompt with any of the above addresses the one that replies is the ip of ur modem)

and manually configure your PC network card with either
192.168.1.25
192.168.1.25
10.0.0.25

Its a little technical i know but you should be able to do it
Hope this helps you.

If this doesn't work we can try a "tracert" command next to see if we can determine the modem IP

ok bring up the network status again by clicking in the bottom right icon.

    click on Properties

In the general tab in the 2nd window scroll down to the Internet Protocol (TCP/IP),

make sure its box its selected and double click it to access the
configuration (This is for XP by the way Vista has something similar
but i can't remember off hand).

We need to try and figure out what IP Address your modem is using, let me just state that this is a bit of guess work and i'm just using the most common IP configurations the better thing would have been the USB connection but here goes nothing (Trying out my hacker skills here lol).

    1st

When you reach Manual configuration click Use the following ip address

    Under IP use 192.168.1.25

    subnet mask 255.255.255.0
    No Default gateway as yet

Now click start menu and run
type cmd and press enter to go to the command prompt
    Type ping 192.168.1.1
    then ping 192.168.1.2
if you get a reply enter the ip that replied in ur default gateway. Then try an access the net, if it works ur done if not move on to the next address range

192.168.0.25 for your IP then follow the above steps and ping
    192.168.0.1 and 192.168.0.2
    look for a reply

    then
    192.168.10.25 your IP
    ping 192.168.10.1 and 192.168.10.2
    look for a reply

    10.0.0.25 your IP
    ping 10.0.0.1 and 10.0.0.2
    look for a reply

Once you get a reply let me know what it is even if you can't access the net yet the main thing is to get the ip address of the modem. If you don't get a reply from any we may have to look into some network tools to install and detect it.

None of them worked? Wow. Well dude you have 3 options now

1 you can try a network mapping tool such as nmap or the dude which u would have to install on your PC. These work great at broadcast pings and return all IPs they are connected to (i.e. your modem). However they can be a lil technical to use, they do come with a nice tutorial though.

2 you could simply call your ISP and ask them what address range they use on their modems. Hopefully the guy who set it up for you initially didn't change this.

3 you can go with my original suggestion of a USB cable and the CD driver to connect to your modem and see what address it is using. If u don't have this ask your ISP if they can provide you with it.

By the way how are you connecting to your modem, I am assuming its by CAT5 UTP network cable right??

Acer aspire 7520 cant connect to LAN ( local only)

Hardwired to modem or router?
Router = check connection to router
(had a router die on me last fall - not AC supply)
IP should be 192.168.1.xx or 192.168.2.xx
(is standard)
Reset Router = reset hole on back - hold for 10 sec
Modem= same directions as router
(most modems work like single port routers)
(do reset of cable modem, I've had that prob too)
Using PPOE connection = check log on info
Took most of my home network apart to find it was the modem causing the problem - should've started there.

I can't figure out how to set up my wireless internet.

To setup a wireless Internet connection you need the following :- 1. You need either a cable or DSL modem with a wireless router or a 3G wireless modem that connects to a 3G wireless network. 2. You need to signup with an Internet Service Provider. The Internet Service Provider may also provide this modem at a cost. 3. The Internet Service Prodider will provide an installation instructions/CD as well as E-mail setup. Have you already installed the wireless card driver on your computer? Can you give me details of what you have already done in regards with setting up the wireless access.

Acer Netbook is "Connected" but can't use internet

You first need to establish that you have internet available to your router via cable modem, dsl, etc. Unless your modem is also your wireless router. Take your ethernet connection or cable that resembles a large phone cable and plug in your Acer One directly into the router. You should then be able to get internet. If not, you may have a problem with your internet in general and need to contact your Internet Service Provider. Also if possible try another pc, see if it has internet. Lastly try reinstalling wireless diver in device manager.

I CANT GET MY LAPTOP TO WORK WITHOUT THE ETHERNET CABLE IN?

Hi,

When was the last time using your internet connection wirelessly? If this is the first time you will use your wireless internet. You may need to check it with your internet service provider or you may check it with your wireless modem (router) manufacturer.

Using wireless internet connection, you will need to configure the settings in the wireless modem (router). you will need to get an admin password and username.

If you were able to connect to the internet wirelessly, check if you wireless icon (WIFI) on your laptop is on.

Keep me posted.

Thanks.
