In order for your DVD to play on your PC, you need at least the DVD-ROM or you install a DVD writer. You also can buy the external one - it's better. Hope this helps... :D
I have a Pioneer DVDRW DVR-K16, in a sony dv81114Notebook. Running Windows XP. It cannot play dvd's and cd's, It will recognize blank CD-R's but when I insert a DVD-R it say's no disc installed. I have firmware version 1.15.
do you have a dvd viewing program installed on the Computer.
Like Power DVD Or Nero.
Try installing one of these or a recent version of Windows media Player. I,d recommend Version 9-10 if your running XP.

first read the updates that windows downloads before installing it to your computer. do a custom install. there might be an issue with one of the windows update with your dvd. its a good thing that you have system restore.
