You first have to do subnetting of the ip which you are using if you use VLSM much better because you will not waste any of the IP it uses /30 net mask which means only two host allows to conenct in that subnet range. then connect both routers via serial link give the ip address on serial link of both routers make sure you give clock rate on DCE cable both the the router's serial port ip on the same subnet. try this and it will solve your problem. let me know hpw did you go. thanks.

Show me how to connect linksys wireless

Hi

The Router configuration is not that much difficult, only few thing you have sure,
1) Correct ADSL Connection User name & password,
2) Chose unique ip address in All host.

Follow the mention bellow instruction to configure and connect to Wifi Router,

  • Plug the network cable ( Mine was Blue ) which comes with the Router Box pack to your computer. The other end goes into any of the Router Ethernet Port ( 1 or 2 or 3 or 4 )
  • Now type in 192.168.1.1 in IE or Firefox or any browser. You will prompted for password which is admin. You must be logged into Linksys Router.
  • Now since your ADSL modem is also having the same IP , we will change the IP address for WRT54G2 Router to 192.168.5.1
  • Under Setup >Basic Setup look for Network Setup and Change Router IP. Change to 192.168.5.1 and Save changes.
  • Since the IP has changed you will need to close the Browser.
  • Sometimes the IP doesnt change automatically. Do a IPCONFIG / RELEASE and then IPCONFIG / Renew

Making WRT54G2 Router talk to ADSL broadband modem
  • Plugin the Ethernet cable which comes from the Modem into the port on Wrt54g2 router which says Internet.
  • Open Internet Explorer and Type in 192.168.5.1.
  • Type in same password ( admin )
  • You will be in Setup > Basic Setup
  • Take a look at Section , Internet Setup. The current selection should be Automatic Configuration DHCP. Select Static IP instead.
  • Add following details to it. In the first step we backed up All the IP configuration. Use them here
Internet IP Address: . . .
Subnet Mask: . . .
Gateway: . . .
Static DNS 1: . . .

ADSL Modem Settings to Wrt54g2 Router

  • Once Done just save changes and you should be back at same page.
  • Now try to connect any application which talks to internet. You should be able to connect
Configuring for Wireless Connection :Now once your Router is talking with Modem, it is pretty easy to connect on Wireless. The only thing we need to setup here is Security. Lets get WIFI
  • Get to the Lynksys page again. Do all login and regualr stuff.
  • Now look for menu Wireless, click on it. You should land on Basic Wireless Settings.

Basic Wireless Settings

  • Select wireless configuration to Manual .
  • Wireless network mode to Mixed.
  • Give a Wireless Network Name (SSID), make sure its unique.
  • Make Wireless channel selection 11 ( 11 - 2.463 GHZ)
  • Select Wireless SSID Broadcast to Enable
  • Save Settings and you will be back at the same page with changes you made.
Now Lets secure the Router :
  • Go to Wireless Security on the same page.
  • You will need to configure here Security Mode : WPA Personal, WPA Algorithms: TKIP
  • WPA Shared Key is what you will need when you connect to your router without wire. This key does the authentication and keep unwanted people away. Add 8 digit alphanumeric key.
  • As suggested in comments, there is a new mode which you can use : WPA2 with AES
  • Save changes.Just make sure you save that key to a notepad or remember it.

Wrt54g2 wireless security

  • Now last step, Move to next menu Security > Firewall .
  • Uncheck Block Anonymous Internet Requests .
  • Save Settings.

Wrt54g2 firewall settings

  • Remove the blue cable which you had connected with Router.
That's it. Now just turn on your WIFI and Search for the router. The name should be visible. Click to connect. At this stage it will ask you for the Password or Shared Key which we configures just above. It will connect and you will be able to connect to Internet.
That's all Folks. This is how you connect WRT54G2 Linksys router with Adsl Broadband Modem. If you have any questions feel free to comment.

I have a Zhone ADSL2+ 4 Port Wireless Bridge/Router, model number 1518-A1-UK-0MA. it as working perfectly until one day when i turned it ON, only the ADSL LED is lit, no other LEDs are on, nor the power...

Please use the following steps:
1. Remove the router and connect it directly from the pc to the modem.
2. Power cycle: turn the modem off and then the computer for 30 seconds, then turn them both back on, modem first.
3. Check you internet connection to see if it working.
4. If it working, connect the router back up. If it not working contact your ISP for dsl support.
5. Once the router is connected, release/renew the ip address. Go to the dos command type ipconfig/release press enter. Then type ipconfig/renew. Check your ip address, you shouldn't get an ip address starting with 169. If you do, this mean you have a problem with the router getting an ip address.
6. Check you internet connection after the release/renew

Can't get internet on my desktop

Is it wired or wireless ?
If it is wired then check the connection between the router and the computer. If it is connected properly then check the IP address on the computer. Make sure that there is no static IP address on the computer.
If it is wireless then make sure that it is connected to the wireless network. If it is not connected then you will need to connect to the wireless network. IF you are not sure about the wireless settings then you will need to open the set up page of the router and check the settings.

Wireless set up problem - no gateway ip or limited connectivity

Connect using Lan Cable
be sure to enable java on your Browser.
Use ONLY IE: some router refuse other browser.
SET your PC on a static IP address on SAME subnet as your router (but of course different IP).
If subnet concept is NOT clear to just just ask here.
When connected with router (on Lan Cable) check every setting (WPA-PSK) TKIP key, Broadcast / Channel etc.
You can also disable every WLAN protection and restore it later.
Activate WLAN connection WHEN you are STILL connected.
Last but not least: SET your DNS IP address = your gateway IP (router)

What is the firewall using vsnl broadband supporting a lan

If I understand you right, you want to setup a ASA firewall.( VSNL broadband is a company in India I believe) but once you get a static IP
you can assign that ip address to the outside of your asa. Put your dsl
router in pass through mode. This will then allow you to nat your inside
network and for you to accept vpn requests. To set all this up you need to get documentation from Cisco.
