Re: Formatting and HP recovery

If the recovery partition is still on your pc and depeding which model you have which you did not specify. But lets give it a shot. Turn on the pc. The first screen should be the HP screen. On the bottom right hand corner of the screen should be an option stating, Press F10 or another F key for system recovery. Press that key. It will take you into a blue screen I believe to the recovery program. The screen will state that it will do a recovery of the operating system and other but will not destroy your data. You will see advanced. Click on that. It will now say it will perform a destructive recovery. continue with that it will repartition and format your drive and return the pc to the factory settings and install all software that was there original. or If you have the recovery cd set that came with the computer. Insert disk 1(recovery cd) it should be labeled and restart the computer If you have neither you will have to you can purchase the recovery cd's at hp's website. If this does not help please post a comment. Specify the model # of your pc and I would be able to help you better.

Restore factory settings

Try tapping the F11 key at system boot up (don't forget the function key if your keyboard has one) you should be taken to a menu that restores the system from a hidden partition on the drive.
If that doesn't work, then try the following:

Click Start [img src="" border="0">and enter
in the search field. Select
Recovery Manager from the list when it becomes available. Allow
the action to continue, if prompted. The HP Recovery Manager opens.

  • Alternately, click
    Start , All Programs ,
Recovery Manager , and then Recovery Manager .
Allow the action to continue, if prompted. The HP Recovery Manager

  • Click Advanced options , System recovery
, and then click Next . The PC will restart and reopen the
    recovery manager.

Alternately, if Advanced options is disabled, click
Next , and then System Recovery . The PC will

  • When the PC restarts, select the System recovery option
    and click Next .

  • If prompted to use the Microsoft System Restore
program, click No , and then click Next

  • When prompted, select the Back up your files first
option, and then click Next . Follow the
    on-screen instructions.

  • When prompted to Recover without backing up your files ,
please STOP before clicking Next .

This is the final opportunity to change your mind about recovering the PC
and deleting all the files and programs. Once you click Next ,
    the restore process cannot be

  • If you are satisfied that you want to begin the recover process, click
Next . The PC immediately begins formatting the hard drive and
    destroying all data.

Hi i have a porbolem with my hp pavilion dv5000 so i wanna reformat it and i dont know why

To reformat your HP machine, you need the recovery disks...This article tells you how to create them....Note...they can only be created ONCE from your make sure you do it correctly:

Next.... BACK UP your data...and TEST it.....make sure your data is working on your backup media....formatting the drive will erase all your data and start over from a fresh copy of Windows.

After that you need to boot your PC from the recovery disk (if it doesn't ask you to boot from the CD you will need to hit F10 key at your HP splash screen to enter the system BIOS. Find the boot order setting and change it so the CD/DVD drive is on top)

After you successfully boot from the DVD, you can pretty much follow the on screen instructions. The following page has more information on reinstalling Windows:

Good careful, but don't be afraid :) as long as you have good backups you should be all good.

After re formatting the hard drive I get this message can not find script file c:hp temp continue after reboot.js I searched the re fomatting disk and can not find it

if you format a hard drive, you erase everything off of it and it is like brand new, therefore any file such as "hp temp" would be non existant.

My computer crashed and i am unable to boot it. we have tried all the methods with HP suport but it failed. they say the only option is to take it to the service center, get a back up and reformat it using...

Well if it is still under warranty and there is a heap of data you need to backup... the answer would be no.

p.s the recovery cd might have a option which will repair the current os without formatting the drives. That all depends on whats exactly wrong...

Need to restore my evo n600c laptop to factory settings i have no recovery disc

If you need to recover your computer you will need the disk, otherwise a copy of windows to restore. The question is why do you need to recover, and whether you can go to safe mode and restore system to it's original functionality without recovery disk?
Also are you trying to recovery bios settings?

Depending on the extent of your computer recovery. Can you still get into the computer, into windows desktop? You might need to format and reinstall all drivers and programs

If you decide on formatting I have gone to the for all your drivers, as Compaq and HP are one company now. You can get a copy of all you drivers from the link below, just click on windows your using and then a list of all drivers are ready for your downloading. As you download save them to computer, once completed download, go to your folder where you saved files and run each one until you have everything installed

Right click your recovery drive and click "format". A dialog box will appear, if the "quick format" box is checked, un-check it, which will do a full format.
