You can unplug the unit for 10 minutes. This will clear this.

SOURCE: My Kenwood KDC-252U radio just started flashing protect on the screen.

Usually, when you see "Protect", the audio system has detected a short in the wiring. You'll have to check for loose or broken wires and missing insulation on wires that are touching anything else in the vehicle. Check all of the speaker leads from the wiring harness to the speakers.

If you can't find any wiring issues, press the reset button behind the faceplate. To take the faceplate off, press in on the upper left corner and then pull the left side away from the dash. Use a pen point or an unfolded paper clip to press the recessed button. It's below the CD slot a bit left of the center of the main unit.

If the "Protect" message continues, your CD-receiver requires service at a service center.

I hope this helps. You can see a picture of the location of the reset button on page 4 of the manual. You can find a copy of the manual from Kenwood support here: http://www.kenwood.com/cs/ce/index.php?model=KDC-252U&lang=index . I have a Kenwood KDC-252U stereo and it is stuck in the protect mode. I followed the instructions the best I can. Any help would be wonderful.

any relations with jack frost? protection comes on if you run it too loud but if its on all the time that would mean your internal speaker output is faulty. you have to tip it

I have a 252 u and it will not reset it just says protect

Disconnect unit from power supply for at least twenty mins , it's most likely you have a short or crossed wire on the power side rather than a speaker wire problem you should have 2 x power one switched ( comes on when you turn the ign key ) and one permanent 12 volt , connect your radio earth to the car chassis to make sure you haven't picked up an aux wire from the loom.

Kenwood kdc-252u keeps flashing protect

These blinks [flashes] are fault indication (Error Codes). From the number of blinks occur at one time switch ON, you can get an idea about the faulty circuit section inside it. This will make repair easy. These are called blinking codes. Make sure about the exact number of blinking of the standby/power LED, by switching On & OFF the set, for at least two times. Count it carefully. If you wish to get some details, check the site linked here. It has details about blinking codes, and fault locating procedure, to many popular brand TVs and other devices. Viewing it in "Mosaic" or "Magazine" will make surf easy.
