Question about Hitachi 51F59 51" HDTV Projection Television

1 Answer

TV is stuck in expanded picture mode & won't return to normal

The TV did this once before but when we pressed the aspect button it returned back to normal screen however this time it won't return to normal screen. The heads of people are cut off & the words across the bottom are cut in 1/2 - it's like the picture is in a macro mode & we can't minimize it. The TV's remote is not accessible ( no batteries ) for our kids which we thought maybe they had pressed a button. They do however have access to the time warner remote control but we don't see any buttons on it that could alter the size of the picture. Can you help me ?

Seems to me as a Sony TV. The sony tv has this feature ready in the menu. you can do zoom out ,standard etc,
But the real problem comes when the tv is turn off and then you get back to turn on the tv (lets say next day)and you find the same big heads.
what you have to do is going to the menu same thing but this time look for an option is called picture size default. This option make learn the memory what size you want custom when tv is turn on.This function is in the same page as the picture size page (refer to the user's manual) but has to be the default mode where you want the change.
The problem with sizes now days is some shows fit perfect some others not. and besides that the cable box has those features too(change size of the screen)

What i do in this sony tv to start first is keeping it in the standard size in the tv menu and i defaulted too.

when some size adjustment is needed i do it in the cable box remote control .Once again this example i do it in SONY tv, Maybe you have to post the problem again if the tv is different brand.

Panasonic TV model no TX-32PD30. Resolution has changed ie become larger and we are losing full screen picture - people are cut out of the screen.

Hi,

The most likely cause of this is that you have accidentally changed the screen aspect ratio. There should be a button on the Panasonic remote marked "ASPECT". With the TV switched on, try pressing the "ASPECT" button repeatedly until the picture either returns to the correct size or you are unsuccessful and cycle back to the original picture size.

You will probably find that you are currently on one of the "ZOOM" settings. The correct setting should either be "AUTO" or "16:9".

If this does not solve your problem, please post back for further assistance. If you are using another receiving device, e.g. a Sky / FreeSat or Freeview box, it is also possible that you need to change the ratio setting of the receiving equipment. Please let me know the details of any additional receiving equipment you are using if/when replying.

Regards,
BElectric.

4.14.1 Understanding Viewing Features
Your LCD HDTV features four viewing modes and Picture-In-Picture (PIP)/Picture-by-Picture (POP) mode.
You can switch viewing modes using the remote control.
4.14.2 Viewing Modes
Normal Mode
The original 4:3 aspect ratio (1.33:1 source) is preserved, so black bars are
added to the left and right of the display image. Standard TV broadcasts are
displayed with a 4:3 Aspect Ratio. Movies in 4:3 Aspect Ratio may be referred
to as pan-and-scan or full frame. These movies were originally filmed in 16:9
(widescreen), and then modified to fit a traditional TV screen (4:3).
Wide Mode
When watching a standard broadcast or full-frame movie in this mode,
the display image is stretched proportionately to fill the TV screen.
When watching a widescreen (1.78:1 source) program or movie, the
display image fills the TV screen. If you are watching a widescreen
(1.85:1 or 2.35:1 source) program or movie, there will still be black
bars at the top and bottom.
Zoom Mode
When watching a widescreen (1.78:1, 1.85:1, or 2.35:1 source)
program or movie, the display image is zoomed proportionally to fill the
width of the screen. The top and bottom are cut off to remove most of
the source material’s black bars. This mode is good for programs or
movies with sub-titles.
Panoramic Mode
When watching a standard broadcast or full frame movie in this mode,
the 4:3 Aspect Ratio (1.33:1 source) display image is stretched
horizontally on the left and right sides to fill the TV screen. The center
of the image is not stretched.

Note: Viewing modes are saved based on input. For example, you lasted watched a DVD in widescreen
mode and then watched TV in standard mode. When you switch back to DVD input, the viewing mode
will return to widescreen.

My tv the picture is bigger than the tv screen

it sounds like you have hit the zoom button or your aspect ratio isnt right. the aspect ratio should be set to 16:9 (if there isnt a button for aspect ratio, change it in the menu) and there should be a zoom button on your remote and just keep hitting that and it should return to normal. If neither works, post your tv brand and model and i'll try to find another answer

I have this same problem with my hitachi 55 inch ultravision luckily i have a warrenty still in effect so i called them and they said... Analog channels are not formatted for wide screen aspect (4, 6, and 10 ect.) this is a normal thing don't worry. It automatically returns to 4:3 because analog is full screen only, and it will return to 16:9 otherwise or whatever you have it set to. Nothing you can do but the good news is your TV isn't broken!
