Question about GE PSS25NGM Side by Side Refrigerator

GE Profile fresh food getting TOO cold

I have a 6 year old Profile Arctica model #PSS25NGM that is running on the cold side and freezing fresh food. The temp select LCD will show a temp, say 37. But when the select is set the disply will go back to cab temperature which has been steady at 29-32 degrees. The freezer side is working just fine. Set it at 0, it stays and reads 0. No matter where I set the fridge temp the 'desired' temp will read correct but the actual won't move much from the 29-32. Reading another post I checked for any obstuctions that might be holding any louvers open allowing freezer air into the fridge but I couldn't even tell if this model has them. I am thinking that a control board might be inacurate but I work on engines not fridges.

Faulty air damper is the usual cause , or possible sensor fault

Re: GE Profile fresh food getting TOO cold

All fridges have air flow control vents somewhere? some are manually set others are electronically or thermally digitally set, as for the readings wouldnt count on that to much as they can give false readings? eye and ear test is best, what u see and hear inside the freezer and fridge? My suspicions are with either the thermistors freezer and fridge ones, or the air flow control device, in ur case to far opened? lastly the cold control thermostat itself may be bad, u need a multi meter to test these. and can do a live test for voltage at the cold control thermostat as well as ohms test

Refrigerator is too cold (28 degrees)

this is likely one of the thermistors on the fresh food side has failed. They are usually located under a small cover inside the fridge. They should have a reading of 15.5k-16.5k ohms at 72 degrees. They are easy to check and replace. Here is a link that should help. You can also enter your model # for diagrams and illustrations of your specific model.

The thermister located inside the wall of the fresh food compartment under a small ribbed cover must be faulty. The system telys on capacitances changes in the NTC(negative temperature coefficient) If the NTC is faulty then the dbrain will continue to send cold air into the fresh food compartment. GE Profile Arctica model # PSS25NGMD - can't control temperature

Check the little damper door next the water filter at top inside the unit. You will have to remove the covers to get it. The little plastic ends will break off and then you can not control the temperture it act like a freezer. Hope this helps Also you can get this part online.

Erratic temperature control. Freezer temperature varies from -4 to +2 even though set to -1, refrigerator also with wide variation. refrigerator is about 2.5 years old and this is a new problem.

Unles this is a big change and is not affecting the fresh food sect temperatures. Those should be 38 degrees for food safety. As far as the temperatures measurements those are easily altered by placing articles of packages near the thermistors in freezer and fresh food compartment. There are many issues you need to consider with the model refrigerator Artic/Profile. They are very sensitive to power surge and simple failures. Hopefully your being only 2.5 years out GE has resolved the problems of the past.GE is a good company and they do support their customers through the 5 year sealed system replacement. There are very many models of your type. Could you send me the model number listed for example PSS26MRSS. If you could I will get you some information that can help you save you repair cost in the end, Now if there is a problem with the thermistors we will need to resolve that because it will cause more problems later. Thanks Sea Breeze

Can the fresh food drawers be disassembled?

yes they can be disassembled but it should not be special temperature drawer or zone which can be independetly controled otherwise you can change the temperature deviation in the compartment which can lead colder temp or below freezing .not good for the fresh food.
