IMAP in Outlook 2007: Moving to deleted folder instead of purging

I am new to using IMAP in Outlook 2007. I have been using Apple Mail for the last couple years. When using IMAP in Apple Mail and you delete an email it goes into the Trash or Deleted Items folder.

In Outlook 2007 it marks it for deletion and then when you purge the folder the email is gone forever. When I delete an email from my IMAP Inbox I want it to simply move to my Deleted folder not to move it one step closer to eternal removal.

    smartray83,

I do not want to remove the deleted items. I want to have them automatically go to the "Deleted Items" folder much like an email would if it was a POP account.

Outlook 2007, gmail, IMAP, Windows XP sp3
I have a similar problem. Whatever i do, outlook cannot get gmail emails to delete - they remain in the Gmail Allmail folder. I have Outlook2007 set up to purge deleted emails on folder exit, i have tried deleting and then purging from my inbox and i have tried deleting and then purging from the Allmail folder. I think i have tried everything, but when i go back to check in the Gmail Allmail folder, there they are: all that unwanted mailing list ****, all the one line emails arranging lunch six months ago, all the useless and pointless emails that i want GONE, but it seems the only way i can do this is by going thru everything in my Allmail folder to identify what i wanted REALLY DELETED and dragging it to the 'bin' folder.
Surely this can't be right? Even the hassle of deleting and then purging makes the value of IMAP questionable, but when even that doesn't work...!
Just about ready to give up on outlook and see if Thunderbird can do any better... Any suggestions before i give up on Outlook permanently?
    Thanks in advance. :O)

I can't received my email using window 10 livemail, need help

No you haven't. :>)

LiveMail is now dead as they used a system called DeltaSynch.

You have to set up brand new accounts using a system called IMAP. Once your mail accounts with Hotmail or MSN are set up, your mail will load. Once you have it all, check the mail and folders in both accounts and then delete the original accounts.

Hotmail IMAP Settings To configure your Hotmail with an email client that supports IMAP and SMTP, you can use the following settings in your email app.
Incoming (IMAP) Server
  • Server address: imap-mail.outlook.com
  • Port: 993
  • Encrypted Connection: SSL
Outgoing (SMTP) Server
  • Server address: smtp-mail.outlook.com
  • Port: 25 (or 587 if 25 is blocked)
  • Authentication: Yes
  • Encrypted Connection: TLS
User name: Your full Hotmail email address, including '@hotmail.com'.
Password: Your Hotmail account password
Normally you should set up your Hotmail account via IMAP protocol. Basically IMAP sync your Hotmail account among different devices and computers, not only the Inbox folder. Also any operation you performed one a device will be synced to the Hotmail server and other devices or mail clients connected to your Hotmail account. POP3 however simply download your emails from your Inbox folder offline. You can them manage emails on your local computer. However under some circumstances, you may also find POP3 mail actually works better than IMAP email. Check out more details here: What are POP3, IMAP and their pros and cons?

Apple mail Import Not Functioning Hi, I have a

You can use an intermediary IMAP server, or simply create corresponding folders in Finder and drag and drop the messages from within Outlook to that folder. Then you can import to Mail from those folders/files.
Or you can simply look for third party tools for better and fast results, here is one recommended by apple store: Om to Mbox

How to transfer email and sub-folders from mac to windows

A quick and easy way to do this is with a GMail IMAP account. Just setup the GMail account on the Mac and in Outlook on Windows. Then in Mail (Mac) drag the messages from your account to the GMail IMAP folders (make as many as you need). Now in Outlook drag the messages from the GMail IMAP account into the Outlook folders you want.

Another way is to go fro third party applications.
The one I know is : Apple Mail to PST Convert - Convert Apple Mail Emails to WIndows Outlook PST

Choose the way you want to opt.
Thank you

POP and SMTP Access service is active. Once configured, POP Access allows you to download, read, manage, and send your Net@ddress Messaging Center email on your computer, both online and offline, using your favorite email client.

IMAP and SMTP services are active. IMAP is a method of accessing your email messages that are kept on a mail server. Once configured, IMAP allows you to download, read, manage, and send your email Messaging Center email using your favorite email client while online or offline. Using an IMAP-compliant email client such as Microsoft Outlook, Outlook Express or Netscape Messenger, an IMAP user can access his/her email on the server from different locations, using both the IMAP client and the WebMail client. For example, when you read a message and store it in a special folder in your IMAP client while at work, you can access that message and folder while reading your email at home with the WebMail client or with another IMAP client without having to transfer messages or folders between computer stations.
