Question about Microsoft Xbox 360 Console
Hi all, a while back my Xbox 360 got the 3-red rings of death, and since my warranty had expired by this point, I decided to fix the xbox myself. After 3 weeks it crapped up again, and I fixed it again a week ago, and again it crapped up with the 3-red lights yet again. After more time fixing yet again trying to troubleshoot problems (I had been getting an E79 error before), I found out that, when the xbox is not 3-red lighting, whenever I put a 360 game into the DVD drive it freezes and won't play, whether it be instant or within a few minutes. All-in-all I have strong feelings that the DVD drive is the main culprit for all my problems.
Can anyone else confirm this? And if so what can I do to either fix the DVD drive, buy a new one (if possible) or is my Xbox 360 just done for good?
Your 360 is a first run off assembly. they were junk from the start. my warranty expired also but called microsoft and they said if the ring of death is related to the first run of 360s they willextend the warranty. exactly what happened to me. 8 days later they sent me a brand new 360 cause problems with the first run 360s can't be properly fixed. contact them tell them the problem and you will get a new one. hope this helps Tadster

Ok it is a laser problem from my point. You can buy a new one and put it in yourself. The E79 is the reason you have the red rings so when it does the rings again unplug everything from the Xbox360 exsept the power cord.Rap the Xbox360 in 2 towles and leave it for 5 minutes and the Xbox360 will get hot and by the way during this towel raping job leave the Xbox360 on and if the Xbox360 gets 2 rings thats ok that just means its over heated witch is good for your Xbox360 at this point. So now everytime it does the red rings just do the towel thing again but expand the time everytime. If none of my solutions work i guess your Xbox360 is done for.
