Question about IBM ThinkPad T42p Notebook

Open Question

IBM T42 booting time is 10 minutes

I have just reinstall the Windows XP to my 2 T42s. Everything works OK except the booting time takes way too long. One takes about 7-8 minutes and another one take more than 10 minutes.
Thank you for the help.

SOURCE: T42 Booting Takes too Long

since you did a fresh install run norton or mcafee or avast
by the way avast is free. defrag your drive. i always do that even after an install.
to get avast go to http://www.avast.com
and download it (it's not memory hungry) run it.
if you still have problems let me know

It is stuck in a loop the screen goes from the IBM logo to a screen explaining that windows didnt start successfully to windows starting up to a blue error screen and then repeating.

You can have your T42 working again by doing the following:

1. In the windows didnt start succesfully screen choose to boot in safe mode with command prompt
2. when it starts, enter the command chkdsk (that means check disk)
3. accept all the changes done by running the command above and restart your laptop
4. everything should be OK now

Good luck!

This T42 was probably installed with Windows XP. Pro. Look at the label it will state which version of XP and on the left hand side of the label you will see a version no. X08 or X10, You can use any Windows XP Pro CD that is the same version that is on the label ie. X08 or X10.
The latest Service pack for XP is SP3.

My ibm thinkpad T42 keeps restarting after opening

try to boot your PC first on safe mode and restore the computer back to the date where it is working fine by using system restore. if same issue occur. you have to reinstall your operating system by using the recovery disk. your windows is already corrupted.

IBM thinkpad t42 boot up problem.

The sympton is rather vague, but I suggest the following options, to be followed one by one, until one of them works for you.

1) Boot your system in Safe Mode (if Windows is your OS) by pressing F8 after the usual "beep" provided by the BIOS after it detects all is fine. If it boots up, which takes a little longer than usual, then your system is probably Ok, although it may have a configuration problem.
Reboot the machine from the shut down menu and hopefully it will work Ok. If not, then, depending on whether you have Windows Vista (or better), try:

2) Boot again pressing the F8 key, but this time locate the option that reads something like "Last known good configuration". Highlight it with the arrow keys and press Enter.
If you have System Restore set on your drive(s) your laptop should boot up normally.

3) The last option would be for you to go into your system BIOS and run at least a HD detection test, followed by a memory test, etc., but I would only recommend doing this if you know what you're doing. If not, ask a friend for help.

Ibm thinkpad t42 switch for wireless network

The T42 has a bulit-in wireless network adapter and a LAN network card. T42s most likely have an Intel wireless card or less likely a Cisco wireless card.
Your wireless network adapter may have been disabled in the BIOS
and/or
The drivers for the wireless network controller has not been installed.

To check the network adapter go to the Control Panel, Click on System, click on Hardware Tab then Device Manager. Then scroll down and click on Network adapters. If you don't see your network controller or you see a yellow ? against Other devices for the Network controller. Then either it has been disabled and/or the driver was not installed.

To get the driver for the network controller you need to dowload it from the IBM/Lenovo WEB site their support/download page from a computer that has Internet access. Make sure you select your laptop model and the driver for your Windows version.
Install the driver and you then need to configure the wireless adapter to suit your wireless router settings before you can access the Internet.
