Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54G Router
For your firmware question. DDWRT is a great choice for your product. I used to have one, and this is what I use. I do however suggest that you do not adjust the Tx or Rx power. This can decrease the life of your router.
As with all 3rd-Party Firmware, it is possible that your device can become "bricked" or defective, during the install process or after use. Please consider this before flashing.

IF you mean "File Sharing" as in your own network of PC's on your network, then all you need to do is turn off sharing option within windows. Your router will not set sharing your folders, drives, printers, etc.
Check your windows setting in "Networks", then "Sharing" and set the appropriate options for your needs.
Hope that helps.
