My Hitachi projection 53FD(or SD not sure)X20B TV just suddenly wouldn't turn on at all. I've checked every connection, unpluged and re plugged, hit the circut breaker and so fourth.
The red standby light is on, and, when I manually touch the power switch, it clicks, but then, nothing. No sound. No picture.

hi, the tv is not set on sleep timer is it. the other fault could be a dry joint or a swollen capacitor a loose board with the power off you will need to do a visual check make sure you've got a good light hope it helps
First, recheck your cables, and their configuration. Make sure whatever source you're using is properly connected to the television. If possible, check your peripheral devices by hooking them up to another TV.
If you're just connected to cable, and if you've already fiddled with all of the on screen menu settings for audio without any luck, then it's possible the TV has some mechanical defect requiring professional repair, and you should not attempt this yourself.
In the meantime, you can try hooking up a stereo to the TV's audio output jacks (use a pair red and white cables to connect the audio out jack on the TV to the auxiliary jack of a stereo). Turn both of them on, set the stereo to aux, and see if you get sound.
I had similar problem with my 57xwx20b TV as well. I'd unplug it from the wall for at leas 30-40s and plug it back in, the picture would return as normal. It will come back from time to time but the same procedure will reset the video board and the picture will return. I'd also check to make sure that the TV has the latest firmware from Hitachi as well. The FW for the ATSC tuner is upgradeable via the SD card and Hitachi website will give you the procedure. This fix all kind of problem with my TV from blank screen, green screen, flashing screen, pinkish screen because the old FW was built before the final standard. Apparently, it interferes with the video board and causes it to go amock. Good luck.
I would try to re-seat the lamp. Pull the lamp out, check it to see if it may have gone bad again, then put it back in to make sure the contacts are connected. Before applying power, unplug the TV for 5 minute, and then plug in/turn it on.
Most lamps, if bad from the factory, will go out within 3 months of use. It does happen, and happens more often than you would think.
