are you wanting to boot from sata? and do you have sata enabled in bios?

You say you have "drives"?
Depending on the age of the computer, you may have to install the SATA drivers as you reinstall the O/S. SATA drives are not natively supported on some older motherboards.
Also, in Dell computers, you have to enable the SATA drives in the BIOS settings.
Just what is it that you did and what happened?

Have you checked your HDD jumper? Make sure it's in the Master position. You can also use the Cable Select setting. For cable select, you need to go to the Bios and make sure that you select your desired HDD as the master drive for boot up sequence.
