check the IDE/SATA cable,if its connected, now u must to become sure from lens.maybe it need to cleaning.therfure,if after cleaning this problem still apear,so u must change the board or somethings in it by testing
Say what drive model you are replacing. The IDE interface ribbon cable is a broad PATA cable that plugs into the the slot at rear of the drive ,its the only place it can go .IF your cable is a narrow one you need a drive with a SATA cable. Regards Bill
EASY. TRY TO REPLACE YOUR OLD IDE CABLE CONNECTED AT THE BACK OF YOUR DVD. BUY A NEW IDE CABLE IT MIGHT SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM.AND LASTLY MAKE SURE THAT THE IDE CABLE IS WELL SEATED ON BOARD AND ON DVD.
may i ask how you installed your dvd burner? is it primary or secondary?
may i suggest that you install your burner as a primary on your ide cable and also, if possible, update your media player so that you can be sure that it will be detected.
you may not need an installation disk for that. because once it will be detected, it would be smooth sailing from there.
if you have had two drives with the same problem i would check the ide cable and swap to another one if you have a master and slave twin connector ide cable, or even try the dvd rom on the same ide cable as the hard drive as you know that that ide connector and cable is working, unless you have a SATA hard drive in which case you won't be able to; but will still have a spare ide channel connector to try the drive on.
You can try using the ide cable connector that the other drive is on and swap them round just to illiminate the cable connector, but at the end of the day i think your DVD burner is faulty and requires replacing, as they are very innexpensive to replace as you wili probably know,so don't waste too much time trying to solve it.
The drives dont last as long as they used to because, keeping the price of burners down, like anything else means cutting corners and costs and in burners cases as was the case with PS2's the lasers are cheap and soon fail.
