unplug it, let it set for about 15 min., plug it back in and see what happens. Hopefully it will recycle itself. If that fails, with your theater remote, you can pull up it's functions screen on your TV, and probably return it to factory default settings. That would be a last resort for me before seeking professional help. Good luck. . .
Before you send the unit to the service center, check the wiring. Make sure that the speaker wires don't have loose strands that are touching each other or touching the rear panel of the AVR-1507. Check all of the speaker wire connections for loose strands. Since the receiver is minimally used, you could try vacuuming out any dust from the interior of the unit. Note: if the receiver is still under warranty, opening the case to clean it will void your warranty.
If the problem persists, a service center is the best option unless you are very skilled at fixing electronics. Manuals Lib does have a service manual for the AVR-1707, AVR-1507 and other models. However, there is a notation that individual illustrations may not match the receiver being worked on. A Google search can lead you to this manual.
I hope this helps.

Hi Thanks for using
FixYa. Store these instructions in a safe place. After reading, store
these instructions along with the warranty card in a safe place. Whenever the power operation button is in the
STANDBY state, the unit is still connected to AC line voltage. Please be sure
to turn off the power operation button or unplug the cord when you leave home
for, say, a vacation. Note that the illustrations in these instructions may
differ from the actual unit for explanation purposes. Please click on this link

turning off
Please do accept the solution if the issue is resolved or
else revert for further assistance.
Because the sound is only faint says to me that the power amp that controls the left channel is faulty. You need to look at the device(s) on the heatsink and probably replace them.
