After replacing the cartridge, the water flow is extremely poor. After calling GE, I was told I may have a bad filter. Hope not at the price per filter they charge. Is there any other solution? Is it possible to have used an incorrect filter (GE FQSLF)

The GE GXRLQR is the correct *replacement* filter for the following "Smartwater" single stage filtration and exterior refrigerator icemaker systems:

  • GE GXRLQ
  • GE GX1S50F
  • GE GQ1S50F
This filter is rated for only 750 gallons / 6 months of use (typical fridge with ice maker & water service). Most home faucets will deliver about 6 gallons / minute which roughly translates to about 2 hours of running water.

The GE FQSLF works with the following for the following Dual Stage Under Sink filtration systems:

  • GE GQSL55F
  • GE GXSL55F
Because there are 2 filters, they will last nearly 2x as long as the GE GXRLQR. and would likely be better suited to serving a faucet which will pass much more water than a fridge ice maker & chilled water dispenser would.

The real question is: Which GE filtration SYSTEM (not filters) do you have?

Ge smartwater catridges

need to change your filter cartridge. your water might be of poor quality and you could need another not so fine filter in front of the filter you have. this will also give you a longer life to the filter you have now. another problem could be that your aerator is blocked. it is found on the end of the spout where the water comes out. unscrew it and check that there is no dirt or foreign material here.

Hello,

The easiest way to tell if it is filling properly is check the water level when the fill cycle is done...the water level should be level with or just over the heat element (oh it sounds as it the valve is good per the ohms reading) Now then a leading cause of poor washibility results is a clogged filter on the pump and ya should check it your pump filte rhas a build up on it restricting water flow through the pump which will surely give poor was results. This youtube video will show ya how to check for a clogged filter http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iRCCrEwrst8

Good luck i hope i have been able to help ya fix your dishwasher,

Heater takes more than 1 minute to get water to kit faucet , then temp fluctuates

1) Guesses: Sounds like a bad single-handled faucet cartridge, or low water flow at faucet, or clogged water filter.
Replace faucet cartridge, clean the aerator, and/or clean sediment out of pipes below sink, and clean water filter at tankless unit each month.

2) For exact measure of problem:
Typical faucet can have 2 gallon per minute flow rate.
2 gpm flow rate means faucet fills 1 gallon container in 30 seconds. Test faucet using 1 gallon container and a cooking timer to get flow rate.
Clean aerator to improve flow rate. Compare kitchen flow rate with other faucets in home.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Low-hot-water-pressure.html

Most homes have 1/2" diameter pipe running to kitchen faucet.
100 feet of 1/2" diameter pipe holds 1.2 gallons of water. This assumes no sediment build-up inside pipes.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Water-heater-recirculation-system.html

Assuming only hot is turned on: If faucet is 100 feet away from water heater, and pipe diameter is unobstructed 1/2" diameter, and faucet has 2 gallon per minute water flow, then hot water should arrive in 36 seconds.
50 feet away, and hot water should arrive in 18 seconds.

If kitchen has single handled faucet, and the handle is raised in the middle, then equal amounts of hot and cold water are drawn at same time. This doubles amount of time for hot water to arrive.

If single handle faucet has a bad cartridge, then faucet can have crossover.
Crossover means that cold water can enter the faucet even if faucet is turned to hot.
Bad single-handled faucet cartridge can delay or stop the arrival of hot water.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Crossover.html

Tankless require maintenance including cleaning combustion parts yearly, de-lime heat exchanger frequently, and clean water filter each month.

GE SmartWater MWF Refrigerator Filter is making noise when dispensing water

The filter body for the unit is poorly designed and can only stand maybe 8 filter changes before it starts failing to open fully with the new cartridge. As far as I can tell the only solution is to replace the filter body.

Replaced my GE double wide refrigerator SMARTWATER FILTER #GWF With a which is supposed to be better. Yet, the water stream has cut down to half. Do I need the adapter collar for this newer model? ...

I have exactly the same problem. Replaced my GWF filter with the "new improved" MWF filter and the same thing happened. Tried replacing the filter not once, but twice - same low water flow. If you install the bypass plug the water flow is normal, so don't bother checking for water restrictions, bad hoses, tanks etc.. My refridgerator is a GE Profile 26 cubic foot purchased in 2004. I'm afraid these MWF filters don't work well in older models.

Water will not flow out of dispenser

This is common when the water filter needs to be replaced. GE recommends:
Water filter clogged. Replace filter cartridge or remove filter and install plug. Air may be trapped in the line: Press the dispenser arm for at least two minutes.
Dispenser is LOCKED. Press and hold the LOCK CONTROL pad for 3 seconds.

The water line may be turned off or disconnected.

Just replace GE's filter with a standard inline filter that hooks to 1/4" water line tubing. Sounds like their filter has no flow rate either...
