I need to switch a range outlet to a dryer outlet; range outlet is off, but I'm not sure where the red, white, black, and green wires should go on the dryer outlet. Thanks for your help.

Thank you! My problem is that there are six wires; 2 green, 1 white, 1 red, and 2 black. I don't know where all of them go in the outlet (except the white). So, I have 6 wires coming out of the wall. Thanks again!

I have a four prong clothes dryer plug that needs to go in a three prong outlet - 220v. Any ideas?

It's either you convert the 3-prong outlet to 4-prong or the 4-prong cord to 3-prong. But the latter is easier and more feasible. Unplug the dryer then disconnect the 4-prong cord from the dryer. Note that it has red, black, white, and green/yellow wires but sometimes the red and black wires are both replaced by same color wire, usually gray. The red and black wires are lines L1 and L2 reversibly, meaning they can switch places, while the white and green/yellow wires are the neutral line and ground, respectively.

Get yourself a 3-prong cord and note that it has red , black, and white wires but sometimes, like the 4-pronged one, the red and black wires are both replaced by same color wire, usually gray and can also switch places. All you have to do now is connect these 3 wires in the same manner they are connected as 4-prong cord to the terminal block. The wire strapped to the dryer cabinet and connected to the green/yellow wire of the 4-prong cord wire is now left hanging. The last step is to connect this hanging strap wire to the same terminal on the terminal block (center) where the white wire (neutral) is connected and it's done.

It can be observed that converting a 4-prong cord to 3-prong cord is merely joining the neutral line (white) and the ground (green/yellow) thereby reducing the number of prongs from 4 to 3. On the other hand, converting a 3-prong cord to 4-prong cord is merely splitting the neutral line and the ground thereby increasing the number of prongs from 3 to 4. Hi lasanaritchi...
The blue and red will be your two 110 volt lines (2 X 110 volts equals 220 volt) and the white one will be the neutral, green wire will be ground

This sounds like you should call an electrician, or someone that knows wiring. Red and Black are both hot, White is neutral, and Green is ground. Remove the ground strap from the center of the terminal block to the case. Put green wire to the case, white in the middle, and red or black to either side. Your last question I do not understand. But it sounds like you need an electrician to connect a 4 prong receptacle, with the proper 4 conductor wire to your breaker box.

Good day,
You wired it correctly. The original setup you had, used a 3 prong, and the white wire could serve as a ground, since all green wires and white wires connect to the same place on the circuit breaker panel.
Adding an additional green wire from the cabinet to a grounding location, such as a bare cold water pipe is just added safety.
There might be something wrong inside the dryer, but to be safe, you should have the outlet checked, to make sure the white(common wire) didn't lift off ground potential, and you have a true 230 volts from red to black, and 115 from both white to red, and white to black at the outlet.

Wire a 4 prong l dryer box

First with any electrical repair, safety must be observed. Be sure the circuit is turned off at the breaker panel (check wires with a voltage tester)
quality gloves and eye protection should be worn.

Typically the terminals or screws in the plug will be color coded (2 brass, 1 aluminum & 1 green)

The black and the red are both hots and can be connected to either of the brass terminals.

Red - hot = Brass terminal
Black - hot = other Brass terminal
White - neutral = aluminum terminal
bare copper - ground = green terminal

I hope this helps...

unless you have an a/c outlet close to your dryer the you wont be able to use an a/c cord. also the cord for an a/c i usually rated for 20 amps and your dryer needs to have a 30 amp circuit.
i would not suggest using this cord as it will overheat and probably cause a fire in your house.
if you think the cord can handle 30 amps, then you need to make sure you hook up red and black to the power sides, white to the neutral and green to ground.
seriously, just go back and get a dryer cord that will match the outlet that is close to your dryer.
draw a picture of what the outlet looks like, ie: the position and angle of the plug slots and go back to the hardware store and find the right cord.
it will work properly and be safe to use.

I need a wiring diagram to wire my oven to the house power. Whirlpool electric model# rb260pxyb

You will have 3 or possibly 4 wires coming out of the oven Red and Black go to the hot leads in the junction box.Usually red & black but could be 2 black. White goes to white Bare/green go to the white if no Bare/Green available. This is for a wall oven. If the stove is free standing and you want to attach a cord. Just buy the cord that matches the outlet in your house. Make sure it is a range cord and not a dryer cord. They are very similar. If a 3 conductor cord (most common) outer two terminals are the hot ones. There is a wire or metal strap between the frame of the range and the center (neutral )terminal . On a 3 conductor cord leave this connected. On a 4 conductor cord remove this wire and connect it to the green/bare wire in the cord. There may be a vacant terminal on the block for this purpose. If not use a wire nut.
