This mainboard uses socket A 462 cpu type.
Look for a amd athlon 3000.
The duron is too slow.
As you know this is only single core.
This cpu can not be bought new anymore.
But a used can be found.

You can upgrade the ram to 2 gb max.
It uses ddr ram.

Good luck

I have a Intel D845GBV socket 478 and burned out my 2.7 g cpu. i would like to know if i can upgrade this board

You can only upgrade as high as your components will allow. If you get a brand new motherboard, you'll also need to get the appropriate RAM, and CPU style. When you're looking into buying a new motherboard, especially to replace a single core motherboard, you usually have to upgrade RAM, CPU and possibly video card, if you're using an older AGP style video socket - so make sure that if you DO upgrade your board, you either keep it within the limits of your components, or upgrade the appropriate pieces along with the motherboard.

If new processor supports your old motherboard then you will upgrade system with your old motherboard.

If its not supported to new mother board then you have to buy new motherboard to upgrade your system.

Thanks.
Happy to help you.

New motherboard with old peripherals - will they work

Yes it will is the short answer.

Were I in your shoes I would look at three things at once to give you better options along the road.

First. A better case with a decently rated power supply

Reason is to give you more space to add items (extra hard drives rom drives better video card and a whole lot of other benefits later

Two. A motherboard that has many ram AND io (pci pci-e etc)
slots as possible within your budget.

Reason as for case but also expandability with regard memory and video.

Three. An intel cpu.

Reason durability, compatibility, and all round long term reliability.

I know there are those that might disagree with 3. but in my experience I have had less issues with intel in business environments than AMD

System speed

Your CPU speed depends on your front side bus speed. Overclock is an option but never recommended. The upgrading ram is cheapest and most noticable upgrade you can do. If your do want to upgrade your computer i would recommend upgrading ram. Remember any computer with a 32-bit processor can only reconize 4 gig's of ram.

to upgrade your going to have to take the laptop apart and remove the heatsink on top of the cpu, then disconnect the cpu, and then install another cpu in place of it, apply therman greeze and put the cpu heatsink back on. and reassemble your laptop.
